Taiwan-based battery-swapping firm Gogoro, has now joined hands with Zomato as a delivery partner. This comes after the recent news about Gogoro homologating its scooters in India. Moreover, the very idea behind it can be traced back to Gogoro’s entry in the Indian market in association with Gurgaon-based Zypp, whose expertise lies in operating EV-as-a-Service to B2B clients and ride-sharing platforms.
Now, the Gogoro-Zomato deal isn’t too big an update, as Revolt has already tied up with pizza chain Dominos, for its RV400 to be used as delivery vehicles. What is, though, are Zomato’s plans of completely switching over to EV-based deliveries, and this association with Gogoro is the first step that end. That said, Zomato has set what seems like a realistic timeline, of 2030, to achieve that goal.
Ultimately, though, considering delivery vehicles spend a majority of the day on the road, the transition to electric mobility will no doubt help cut fuel costs as well as reduce emissions. Moreover, this will also help Gogoro gain valuable data on Indian riding conditions, as the info can be used to tweak Gogoro's offerings, if and when it decides to move into the consumer EV market.. And with public transport too moving to electric, it reduces the stress on fossil fuels which can, in some way, put a cap on rising fuel prices as well!
