The 2024 Toyota Camry was launched in India on December 11 at a price tag of Rs 48 lakh (ex-showroom). This marks an increase of Rs 1.83 lakh over its predecessor. For this premium, the ninth generation of the sedan offers a variety of additional features and upgraded safety equipment. Not to mention the completely new design inside out. Additionally, there is a more potent and updated 2.5-litre strong-hybrid powertrain. In this article, we take a close look at the new key updates and features the Camry brings to the table.
With the new generation Camry, Toyota now provides the latest iteration of its Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), known as Toyota Safety Sense 3.0. The suite of active safety features includes pre-collision system, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, auto high beam, and lane departure alert.
While the eight-gen Camry came with a 360-degree camera in international markets, the India-spec model lacked it. However, the new 2024 Camry now comes fitted with a 360-degree camera. This feature, which is becoming increasingly common in mass market cars, provides a bird’s-eye view of the vehicle’s surroundings. This makes it useful maneuvering in narrow spaces or parking in tight spots, offering a greater visibility and ease of use.
The Toyota i-connect is another new highlight of the 2024 Camry. This feature is commonly known as connected car tech in cars. The functionality enables users to remotely access and control various functions of the vehicle via Toyota's smartphone app. Through this app, users can remotely lock/unlock the car, check tyre pressure status or whether the doors are locked, and even turn on/off the engine.
The new Camry now features a significant upgrade in the infotainment department with a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, replacing the 9-inch unit available on the previous model. This new system offers in-built navigation, a voice assistant, and wireless support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Apart from that the system is paired with a 9-speaker JBL sound system.
Alongside the larger central information display, Toyota has equipped the new Camry with a 12.3-inch driver display. This new larger screen replaces the 7-inch unit on the old model and displays essential not only readouts but also vehicular information, such as tyre pressure, hybrid system data. It also allows users to control functions of the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).
Apart from that, the new-gen Camry continues to offer all the bells and whistles like its predecessor, including 10-way powered front seats with memory and lumbar functions, rear powered seats with a touch-based screen for climate and seat controls, three-zone AC, a single-pane sunroof, ventilated front seats, wireless phone charger, and 10-inch heads-up display. Safety features include 9 airbags, ESP, hill start control, vehicle approach notice system, and TPMS. While there were no substantial upgrades given to the new-gen Camry, it was already loaded with a range of features. And the nip and tuck mentioned above will keep it fresh and competitive in the market. Meanwhile, the 2024 Toyota Camry continues to take on the Skoda Superb in India.
