While electric cars are gaining popularity, recently there have been a bunch of new hybrid cars launched in India for those looking for a fuel efficient option. And with more buyers flocking for this particular powertrain, it’s no surprise more manufacturers want to tap into this segment. 2023 saw the introduction of a hybrid-powered sedan, an MPV, a performance car and even a supercar. Let us take a look at the 5 hybrid cars launched till now this year.
Earlier this year, the Honda City hybrid got an update with minor design changes. This includes new lower-end variants and some extra features to make it even more accessible. The price of the City e:HEV ranges from Rs 18.89-20.39 lakh.
The hybrid Honda City comes with a 1.5L petrol engine and two electric motors. The system output is 126PS and 253 Nm. Transmission duties are handled by an e-CVT gearbox. The claimed fuel economy for the hybrid is 27.12 km/l.The Honda City hybrid was the first hybrid car in the mass-market segment, and for this we must give kudos to the Japanese carmaker. With a price of Rs. 3.3 crore, the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance is not just a pretty hybrid car. The car is the most powerful production AMG model. A 4.0L twin-turbo V8 powers the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance. A 199PS electric motor is connected to the rear wheels and focuses primarily on performance. The combined system output is a whooping 843PS and 1,470Nm of torque. This is sufficient for a 0-100 km/h time of 2.9 seconds and a top speed of 316 km/h. A 9-speed automatic gearbox sends power to all the four wheels.
McLaren launched the hybrid supercar in India for a neat sum of Rs 5.1 crore. What makes Artura unique is that it is the first McLaren to feature a V6 engine, but the electric motor adds more puissance.
The Artura is powered by a 3.0L twin-turbo V6 motor. A mid-mounted electric motor supports the engine. The combined power output of the car is 680PS and 720Nm. All this power is sent to the rear wheels via an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
A 7.4 kWh battery offers an all-electric range of 30 km with a top speed of 130 km/h in EV mode. This battery can be charged from 0-80 percent in 2.5 hours.
Coming to performance, the Artura can dispatch 0-100 km/h in 3 seconds and reach a top speed of 330 km/h.
The Invicto MPV is nothing but the Toyota Innova Hycross in a different avatar. The overall design is the same, but some changes from the sister company include updated grille, LED headlamps, front bumper and rear tail lamps.
While the overall design of the Invicto is similar to the Innova Hycross, Maruti has made a few changes to help differentiate it from the Toyota. That said, it continues to be powered by a 186PS 2-litre strong-hybrid powertrain driving the front wheels via an e-CVT. To know our driving impressions, check out our first drive review.
Earlier this month, Toyota launched the 2023 Vellfire in India. The new Vellfire will be offered in two trims - Hi and VIP. The luxury MPV is priced at Rs. 1.20-1.30 crore (ex-showroom).
The new Vellfire is paired with a 2.5-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine. It is supported by a hybrid system. The combined output of the MPV is 193PS and 240Nm.
