The new Maruti Swift is inching closer to its debut here in India. Test mules have already been spotted on our shores, and Suzuki’s Japanese website now has the variant images of the new-gen hatchback as well. There are three trims on display and here’s what they look like:
This is the base-spec model of the Suzuki Swift in Japan. And despite being at the bottom of the list, it seems to pack the LED DRL light signature and headlights. There are no fog lamps, however, and no chrome insert on the grille as well. Also, the skid plate is finished in black as opposed to grey on the other two trims.
There are no alloy wheels in profile as there’s a simple plastic wheel cover on the steel wheels. The ORVMs also miss out on the turn indicators. And while the cabin images of the base-spec model are yet to be revealed, you can expect basic necessities like manual AC, a smaller touchscreen, power windows, a plain multi-info display and a traditional handbrake lever to be on offer. Although, it does get front parking sensors as standard.
Being the mid-spec variant, this trim packs a few exterior bits over the base XG, like the chrome insert for the grille and a Silver finish for the skid plate. However, it still misses out on fog lamps in the front bumper, but gets monotone alloy wheels in profile. Other two additions in profile over the base variant come in the form of the ORVM mounted turn indicators and the hybrid badging on the fender.
Again, there are no cabin images, but expect this mid-spec variant to pack a few features over the base variant.
This is the variant that you might have seen in the pictures till now. The front sports the LED DRL within the headlamp, while you also get the chrome insert on the grille. The skid plate is finished in silver and it also adds fog lamps to complete its overall front aesthetic.
The top-spec trim also brings the dual tone alloy wheels, which is the only change over the mid-spec trim in profile.
The cabin gets a new dual tone theme and a layout which is somewhat similar to the cabin of the Fronx and Baleno. Feature-wise, there’s a nine-inch touchscreen system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, cruise control, steering-mounted buttons, push-button start/stop and automatic AC. The driver gets a MID display flanked by two analogue dials.
The Japan-spec Swift also gets ADAS features like, autonomous braking assist, automatic high beam assist, and more. And these features could make way to the India-spec model as well, considering that a test mule was spotted with the ADAS module onboard.
The new Swift gets a new 3-cylinder Z-Series unit, which retains its 1.2-litre engine capacity. It is paired to a CVT gearbox, and should offer a similar power output to the current engine. And there’s also a hybrid powertrain, which is limited to the MX and MZ trims.

Specifications for the India-spec model are unknown as of now, but it should get both manual and automatic options with the new three-cylinder petrol engine that will replace the current model’s four-cylinder unit.
Expect it to command a premium over the current model, which is priced between Rs 5.99 lakh and Rs 9.03 lakh (ex-showroom). It’ll continue to rival the likes of the Tata Punch, Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, and be a hatchback alternative to the Renault Triber.
