Government of Uttar Pradesh waives off 100 percent registration fees for new hybrid vehicles in the state.
The newly implemented policy will help in boosting up hybrid car sales in the state.
Costs of hybrid cars to get significantly cheaper by Rs 2-3 lakhs.
Brands like Maruti Suzuki, Honda and Toyota to benefit from this move.
In a significant step to boost the sales of hybrid vehicles, the state of Uttar Pradesh has announced a complete waiver on the registration fees for hybrid vehicles. This initiative will encompass strong hybrid vehicles (HEVs) and plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs), making them more approachable and affordable for customers looking for an alternative to the regular ICE powered vehicles.
As per the state's new policy, the registration cost for hybrid vehicles will be 100 percent waived off, making them cheaper by a substantial amount. This development is expected to benefit mass-market manufacturers such as Maruti Suzuki, Honda, and Toyota, which have a range of hybrid models in their product lineup.
One can expect cars such as the Honda City eHEV, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Toyota Innova Hycross, Toyota Camry, Toyota Vellfire and the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, to get significantly more affordable in the state of Uttar Pradesh. What remains to be seen is if this policy will be there for fully imported hybrid models. But nevertheless, here’s an example of how much affordable these hybrid models will be getting post the waiver:

Prices for the state of Uttar Pradesh
It is pretty evident from the table above that at least Rs 2 lakh and more can be saved while opting for a hybrid vehicle in the state of Uttar Pradesh.
Currently, hybrid cars in India, account for just 2 percent of the total number of passenger vehicles sold in the country. The full waiver on hybrid car’s registration fees is going to act as a catalyst and is in turn going to create a significant growth for the segment, by encouraging more potential customers to choose hybrid powertrains. Additionally, stock market prices for Maruti Suzuki India, which will launch more hybrid models down the road, has also risen as a result of this announcement. What are your thoughts on this?
