  • It has racked up over 1 lakh sales milestone within a year of its existence.
  • The Grand Vitara is Maruti’s shot at the compact SUV space.
  • Gets a choice of a 1.5-litre petrol and hybrid powertrain, with optional all-wheel-drive for the former.
  • Buyers looking for lower running costs also have the option of a CNG.
  • Prices start from Rs 10.7 lakh (ex-showroom).

It’s been exactly a year since the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara has been launched, and the carmaker has announced that the compact SUV has racked up over one lakh sales. This feat, as Maruti claims, is one of the quickest in its segment.

The Grand Vitara is Maruti’s shot at the compact SUV space, which was dominated by the Korean siblings the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. It was also Maruti’s attempt at a model that costs over Rs 20 lakh (on-the-road for higher-end models) after models such as the Kizashi. And boy, the Grand Vitara has been a successful crack with its design, lengthy features list and multiple powertrain options.

Highlights of its features list includes a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, connected car tech, panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charger, ventilated front seats and a digital driver’s display. As for its safety features, it includes six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control and rear parking sensors with 360-degree camera.

The Grand Vitara gets two engine options: a 103PS 1.5-litre petrol and a 116PS 1.5-litre strong-hybrid powertrain. The petrol engine can be teamed with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter, while the hybrid sends the drive via an e-CVT.

Customers looking to explore over broken terrain will also be happy to know the Grand Vitara gets an all-wheel-drive option with its petrol engine. And if you’re someone looking for lowered running costs, you get a CNG option with the base engine. All in all, there’s a powertrain for everybody except for those looking for a diesel engine.
