  • We expect it to launch in India sometime in 2024.

It has been a long time coming, the new-gen Skoda Superb, and now, it has finally dropped covers globally. A comprehensive generational update to the sedan brings tweaks to its exterior, interior, features, and even the powertrain options on offer. Let’s take a look at what the new Superb is all about:

2024 Skoda Superb Exterior

The revised styling of the new Superb follows the brand’s 'Modern Solid' design language. And while it is new, some parts of it are rather familiar at the same time as well. The signature grille, for instance, is something we’re well-versed with, but the LED lights flanking it are new, thanks to fresh insignia for the LED DRLs. The bumper now gets a larger air dam with sharp cuts and creases.

The body shape is similar and the only critical revamp in profile are the new alloy wheel options, which go up to 19 inches. The rear, too, has been updated with reworked elements inside the LED taillights along with the reprofiled bumper. Overall, the Superb’s design update does look evolutionary, and that isn’t a complaint.

In contrast to the exterior, the cabin of the new Superb is a rather big departure from the outgoing model. Visually, the dual-tone theme, contrasted by the silver inserts and surrounds look chic and premium. The focal point has to be the 13-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system along with the three dials for the HVAC controls. They store small displays within it and you also get physical buttons for various HVAC controls.

The centre console looks rather clean and unobstructed, thanks to the gear lever being positioned behind the driver. As for features, there’s plenty to talk about. But the stand-outs have to be ambient lighting, a premium sound system, electrically adjustable front seats with heating and ventilation, a panoramic sunroof, and wireless phone charging along with USB-C fast charging capabilities. We’ve already mentioned the centre screen, but the driver also gets a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster.

As for the safety kit, the list includes equipment like multiple airbags, ISOFIX mounts, electronic stability control, and a comprehensive suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) features.

The Superb is embracing electrification in the form of two hybrid powertrains: a 150PS 1.5-litre mild-hybrid, and a 204PS 1.5-litre plug-in hybrid. The latter uses a 25.7kWh battery pack and that can help it do over 100km on electric power alone.

It also gets 2-litre turbo-petrol and diesel engine options, and India is likely to continue with the turbo-petrol mill alone. Only the plug-in hybrid gets a 6-speed DSG (dual clutch automatic) transmission, as all the other powertrains are geared using a 7-speed DSG unit.

2024 Skoda Superb Price and Rivals

The Superb had bid adieu to the Indian market back in April 2023, when the stricter BS6 Phase 2 norms kicked in. But now, it is likely to make a comeback in its new avatar, sometime in 2024. It could be priced around the Rs 35 lakh mark, and will rival the likes of the Toyota Camry, while also posing as an affordable alternative to the likes of the BMW 2 Series and Mercedes-Benz A-Class Limousine
