Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder To Get Segment-first AWD With Auto ‘Box

The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, rival to the Hyundai Creta, is all set to be unveiled on July 01. The Japanese carmaker has been slowly revealing details of the compact SUV ahead of the run-up to its global unveiling. And now, the latest teaser has confirmed the presence of a segment-first all-wheel drive system paired to an automatic gearbox. 

We have already exclusively reported that the Hyryder will get a 1.5-litre petrol engine with both mild- and strong-hybrid options. Only the former will get the optional all-wheel-drive system, while front-wheel drive will be standard. Plus, the teaser also revealed that Toyota will offer the all-wheel drivetrain with the optional automatic transmission. We also hope it offers the same with a stick shifter as well.

Though this is a Toyota, it’s actually Maruti Suzuki who was behind the development of the SUV. So, it will be based on a Suzuki platform, but will be manufactured at Toyota’s facility in Karnataka. Speaking of which, Maruti’s version of this particular SUV is expected to break cover soon after the covers come off the Hyryder. 

The Toyota Hyryder is expected to be priced from Rs 10.5 lakh (ex-showroom) onward, putting it in contention with the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, VW Taigun, and MG Astor.
