The Lexus LM luxury MPV is headed to India soon. The exact date hasn’t been confirmed just yet, but Lexus has already kicked off the launch campaign by dropping a bunch of teasers on its social media handles. The second generation of the MPV, now based on the recently launched Toyota Vellfire, was revealed just a few months back at the Shanghai Auto Show.
The silhouette of the Lexus LM is undeniably that of a van. However, the elements within that silhouette defy usual van-like characteristics. You’re met with a humongous spindle grille which, unlike the Toyota’s horizontal slats, gets honeycomb mesh-like elements for that typical Lexus flavour.
It gets subtle creases in profile, while the windowline has been reworked to give the roof a floating effect. The van-like demeanour continues at the rear with a huge window and upright-ish stance. You also get connected LED taillights, which look chic and premium.
Instead of taking the easy way out, Lexus has given the cabin its own identity with a completely different layout. In fact, the rear cabin of the LM, where most owners will be spending most of their time, is even more opulent than that of the Vellfire with wide recliner Ottoman seats, a 48-inch widescreen TV, a 23-speaker surround-sound audio system, and pillow-style headrests.

Other ‘mere’ features include heated and ventilated seats, 64-colour ambient lighting, as well as a bunch of active safety features. The cabin uses light colours, which surely will be a pain to maintain. But hey, if you’ve got the money for an LM, you’ll definitely have the spare change needed for that weekly vacuum session!

The Lexus LM is available in three configurations globally: four-seater, six-seater, and seven-seater. But if you’re after true opulence, the four-seater is the one for you, and it’s inbound considering this is the one Lexus has been teasing here.
The entire powertrain lineup of the Lexus GX is electrified with hybrid tech. There are two powertrain options available globally: a 2.4-litre turbo mild-hybrid and a 2.5-litre self charging strong-hybrid powertrain. That said, it remains to be seen which one makes it to India.

Expect the Lexus LM to be priced at a premium over the Toyota Vellfire, which retails for an already hefty Rs 1.2 crore to Rs 1.3 crore (ex-showroom). The LM won’t have any direct competition apart from the Vellfire, but it can be considered as an alternative to luxury 3-row SUVs such as the Mercedes-Benz GLS and BMW X7.
