The Innova Hycross, with its brand new underpinnings, strong-hybrid powertrain and upmarket features, is a more premium offering than before

  • Toyota Innova Hycross breaks cover in India.
  • It will be sold alongside the Innova Crysta.
  • Top features include a panoramic sunroof, powered captain seats for middle row, and ADAS.
  • It’s now based on a monocoque chassis instead of a ladder-on-frame architecture.
  • Gets a choice of either a naturally aspirated or strong-hybrid petrol engine.
  • Its pricing now makes it a more apt rival to the Kia Carnival.

Just a few days after the Toyota Innova Hycross debuted in Indonesia, Toyota didn’t make any haste bringing the latest iteration of its popular nameplate to India. The Innova Hycross has just been unveiled in India and prices are expected to be announced at Auto Expo 2023.  And at an expected price tag of Rs 20 lakh to Rs 30 lakh (ex-showroom), the Hycross will be India's most affordable strong-hybrid three-row offering when it goes on sale. The Innova Hycross will be offered in India with two engine options and five trims.

Take a look at the variant-wise powertrain options that you get:

The Innova Hycross will be sold alongside the existing Innova Crysta in India. And despite the Hycross’ evolutionary looks, there are some stark differences between both the MPVs. For starters, the Hycross is the first Innova to be based on a car-like monocoque platform instead of the traditional body-on frame chassis. It’s also a size larger than its predecessor.

Like before, the MPV can be either had with captain seats or a bench for middle-row occupants. But the former packs a much more premium experience due to the presence of powered seats with a leg rest a la the Mercedes-Benz S-Class! You also have dual entertainment screens to keep you entertained.

Speaking of which, there are plenty of new features onboard as well. Top new additions include a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control (front and rear), ventilated front seats, digital driver’s display, 360-degree camera, electronic parking brake with auto hold, and ADAS features. Other notable features include a 9-speaker JBL sound system, automatic climate control, a larger 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system and six airbags.

There are big changes underneath the hood as well. There’s no diesel engine on offer, but the MPV now gets a choice of either a 174PS 2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine or a 186PS (combined) 2-litre strong-hybrid petrol powertrain. And unlike before, both engines drive the front wheels instead of the rears. They come paired with a CVT for the NA petrol and e-CVT for the hybrid.  Toyota says the hybrid variant has a claimed fuel efficieny of 21.1kmpl and it can do from 0-100kmph in under 10 seconds.

Overall, the Innova Hycross is a much more premium and upmarket MPV than before. It will be an apt rival to the Kia Carnival, while being a more upmarket rival to the Kia Carens and Mahindra Marazzo
