The all-new hybrid MPV is already available to order and its prices are expected to be announced soon

  • Innova Hycross is a successor to the Innova Crysta, which will be sold alongside it.
  • Offered with a 2-litre petrol engine and strong-hybrid powertrain with a CVT gearbox.

  • Gets five trim levels, G, GX, VX, ZX and ZX(O).

  • Prices are expected to start at around Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom).

Units of the Toyota Innova Hycross have reached the marque’s dealerships for display ahead of the price announcement, which is expected soon. The all-new, next-generation Innova is available to order and is offered with a strong-hybrid powertrain as well as a non-hybrid.

The Innova Hycross is offered in five broad trim levels – G, GX, VX, ZX and ZX(O) – with the lower two trims offered with a petrol-only drivetrain and the upper three offered with a strong-hybrid. Both variants are available in seven and eight-seater layouts with captain seats or a bench seat in the second row. However, the ZX and ZX (O) only come as seven-seaters.

A 2-litre petrol engine is placed under the bonnet, making 174PS and paired with a CVT in the petrol-only model. The strong-hybrid gets a 2-litre unit paired with an electric motor, developing a combined output of 186PS. It even has an EV (driving) mode and offers a claimed fuel efficiency of 21.1kmpl.

Despite being only slightly larger than its predecessor, the Innova Crysta, the Hycross opens up more room inside owing to its longer wheelbase. It has more creature comforts and premium features, including a panoramic sunroof, power reclining captain seats (in the seven-seater variant), ventilated front seats, a 10.1-inch infotainment screen, nine-speaker JBL audio system, multi-zone AC (front and rear) and eight-way powered driver seat.

The safety kit goes beyond the airbag coverage that the older Innova offered, adding a 360-degree camera and even driver-assistance features such as forward collision avoidance, blind-spot monitoring and adaptive cruise control.

The Innova Hycross is now an apt rival to the Kia Carnival in India, offering a more premium experience than the Mahindra Marazzo and Kia Carens. Prices, which are expected to be announced soon, are likely to start from around Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom).
