After months of teasers, Ola Electric has finally launched its electric scooters, the S1 and the S1 Pro.
The two scooters look visually the same and come in ten colour options in satin, matte and glossy finishes.
Apart from the rich colours, the scooters don’t get any sort of graphics. All you get is the variant and company badging.
Both feature a swanky LED headlamp up front and below it are sleek-looking LED strips serving as indicators.
Then you have an arched floorboard which houses the batteries. It looks premium and has a ribbed pattern to help you keep your feet planted.
At the rear, you have an unconventional LED tail light. We feel the tail section could’ve looked better as it adds a slight awkwardness to the overall flowing design. For pillion comfort, expect Ola to introduce a side-mounted foot board as an accessory.
Both Ola scooters seem ergonomically sound too, thanks to a seemingly well-padded 738mm long seat. You do sit slightly tall at 792mm, though, especially for a commuter scooter.
When aboard the S1 and the S1 Pro, you are greeted by a big 7-inch TFT display.
And along with it you get a kitchen sink of features like smartphone connectivity, proximity lock, smart key with keyless ignition, turn-by-turn navigation, reverse mode, all-LED lights, and “take me home” lights. In addition to these, the S1 Pro gets first-in-class bits like cruise control and hill hold control!
The Ola S1 and the S1 Pro are powered by an 8.5kW motor, putting out 58Nm. Ola claims the motor can propel the S1 to a top speed of 90kmph while the S1 Pro can clock 115kmph.
Coupled to the beefy motor is a 2.98kWh and 3.97kWh battery on the S1 and the S1 Pro, respectively. The claimed range for the S1 is 121km while the S1 Pro can cover a massive 181km in a single charge.
The setup is housed in a tubular chassis sprung on a telescopic fork with a single arm up front and a monoshock at the rear.
Riding on 110-section tyres, the scooters get sporty-looking 12-inch aluminium alloy wheels anchored by single disc brakes at both ends. CBS comes standard too.
Ola has priced the S1 and the S1 Pro at Rs 99,999 and Rs 1,29,999 (ex-showroom Bengaluru, including FAME II subsidies), making them excellent value for the money.
Compared to their arch-rivals, the Ola S1 undercuts the TVS iQube Electric by Rs 2,300 while the S1 Pro is Rs 14,500 cheaper than the Ather 450X.
