During the event where Skoda announced its future plans, the Czech carmaker also showcased the Skoda Kushaq Explorer concept, which is a special edition of the compact SUV consisting of off-road-spec elements making the car look rugged. Here are all the details of the Skoda Kushaq Explorer known so far in our in-depth image gallery.
Exterior Upgrades
Up front, the grille is now blacked out, along with most of the chrome elements and badges. In addition, there are orange inserts on the grille, faux airdams and silver skid plate, along with an orange-colored tow hook. Look closely below the front grille and there is a camera, confirming the presence of a 360-degree camera.
The Skoda Kushaq Explorer Concept is finished in this rather lovely looking matte green shade. Look closely and you can also see the presence of an orange insert of door cladding. However, the main change here is the all-black 16-inch alloys wrapped in all-terrain tyres adding to the car’s rugged presence.
Additionally, Skoda has included a roof-mounted carrier in the Kushaq Explorer. As an off-road variant of the SUV, it also has an LED light bar mounted on the roof.
At the rear, the special edition of the compact SUV looks similar to the regular version of the Kushaq. We can see that the ‘Skoda’ and the ‘Kushaq’ badging have been blacked out. Rounding off the design updates, the SUV also gets a dual-tone grey-black finish for the rear skid plates.
Interior
Coming to the interiors, the Kushaq will get the same layout as the standard version of the car, albeit with some cosmetic tweaks. For starters, this concept gets an all-black dashboard and there are splashes of green coloured inserts to match the exterior color theme of the car. Look closely and you’ll notice the black seat covers get orange stitching to dial up the contrast.
Features
In terms of features, the Kushaq special edition is equipped with some additional features over the standard SUV, featuring a 360-degree camera, an air purifier, and a head-up display.
Powertrain Details
The Skoda Kushaq Explorer edition will be available with the 150PS 1.5-lire TSI engine as seen by the TSI badge (1-litre variants don't get this) on the rear. The larger engine comes equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed dual clutch automatic transmission (DCT). This particular model is based on the manual transmission variant.
At this point, the Kushaq Explorer is simply a concept, and Skoda has not stated whether or not it will be launched. The roof carrier and all-terrain tyres are the two intriguing upgrades over the standard Kushaq, but it's unlikely that these will be offered as factory-fitted options. In the near future, the unique color and similar cosmetic options might be available, just like how Volkswagen offers the Taigun Trail Edition.
The standard Skoda Kushaq is priced between Rs 11.89 lakh and Rs 20.49 lakh (ex-showroom) pan India. It rivals the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Volkswagen Taigun, Honda Elevate, and Citroen C3 Aircross.
