The Toyota Hyryder’s strong- hybrid variant trim levels oneups its badge shared sibling, the Grand Vitara. You see, the Maruti SUV comes in two trims (Zeta+ and Alpha+) higher on the hierarchy, while the Hyryder is offered in three trims: S, G, and V. The Hyryder’s S strong-hybrid variant, at Rs 15.11 lakh (ex-showroom), is the most affordable strong-hybrid car you can buy in India currently, and we’ll be explaining how in 5 detailed images:
In terms of design, the mid-spec S trim sits on 17-inch steel wheels with plastic covers and gets halogen projector headlamps instead of LEDs. a keen observer will notice that the chrome surround around the headlamps is exclusive to the hybrid. Rest of the design touches are similar to higher-end variants, meaning you still get LED DRLs and the sleek LED tail lamps.
The Hyryder’s hybrid variants get a black/brown interior colour scheme instead of the mild-hybrid’s all-black theme. Looks premium! Also, this being a lower-spec trim gets a smaller seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system instead of the larger nine-inch unit in higher-spec trims. However, it gets a digital driver’s display, which is standard on the hybrid variants.
Other notable features onboard include automatic climate control, cruise control, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, keyless entry with push button start, steering-mounted audio controls, and electronically adjustable and folding ORVMs. Passenger safety is taken care of by dual airbags, hill hold assist, electronic stability control, and rear parking camera with sensors.
This Hyryder gets a 116PS, 1.5-litre, strong-hybrid powertrain driving the front wheels. It can also be had with a 103PS 1.5-litre, mild-hybrid engine with manual and automatic transmissions as well as optional all-wheel drive. For more details, read our in-depth variants explained story.
The Toyota Hyryder prices range between Rs 10.48 lakh and Rs 18.99 lakh (ex-showroom). It locks horns with the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, VW Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, MG Astor, and the Maruti Grand Vitara.
