BMW’s full-size three-row SUV, the X7, has received a facelift and the updated model has been introduced in the Indian market. It gets controversial front-end styling, the carmaker’s new i-Drive 8 infotainment system, and more poke from its 3-litre petrol and diesel engines. All of this can be yours for a starting price of Rs 1.22 crore (ex-showroom). Bookings will commence from today, while deliveries are slated to begin from March.

Unlike before, where the X7 was offered in multiple trim options, the facelifted model initially comes to India in its M Sport guise. 

BMW X7: What’s New In The Facelift?

There’s no doubt that the front end of the BMW X7 is going to split opinions, thanks to its controversial ‘face’. The kidney grille has been upsized from 2XL to 3XL, flanked by a pair of slim split-LED headlamps, like the X7. This being the M Sport variant gets bumpers with sportier design elements, adding to the aggressive front-end design.

In contrast to the heavily revised front profile, the SUV now rolls on revised M-branded alloys, while the rear end features minor styling differences, including new 3D-like tail lamp elements and a mildly revised bumper. Overall, according to this author, the new X7 looks menacing, especially in front of models with safe styling, like the Audi Q8 and Mercedes-Benz GLS. 

Step inside the cabin and your eyes are drawn to the new curved display housing the digital driver’s display and touchscreen infotainment system. It runs on BMW’s i-Drive 8 and houses the climate control on the screen itself, allowing BMW to redesign the central AC vents. Other minor styling revisions include a toggle switch replacing the traditional gear lever.

The BMW X7 gets a pair of 3-litre six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, driving all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission. They also get 48-volt mild-hybrid tech, giving a boost of 12PS and 200Nm under hard acceleration.
