Aims to go head on with the KTM 250 Adventure

A week ago, Benelli commenced pre-bookings of its smallest ADV, the TRK 251, in India for Rs 6,000. And now, the Chinese-owned Italian company has put a final price tag on it. Not to forget, this is the first time Benelli has entered the highly-competitive entry-level ADV segment in our country.

What’s The Price? Who Are Its Rivals?

Benelli has priced the TRK 251 at Rs 2.51 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), making it the most pocket-friendly Benelli ADV bike in India yet.

The TRK 251 primarily rivals the KTM 250 Adventure, but the Royal Enfield Himalayan and the Hero XPulse 200 4V are the more pocket-friendly alternatives.

What All Do You Get?

Starting with the design, the Benelli TRK 251 looks like you’d expect a 250cc ADV to look. Tall, brawny, and purposeful. There are hints of the bigger TRK 502 here and there like the front beak, 800mm high seat with rear luggage mounts, bodywork, and windscreen. However, the TRK 251’s fascia is much different, comprising twin LED projector lights flanked by sporty LED DRLs, giving it its own personality. We also like how the LED indicators are integrated into the tank shrouds.

While the design is likable, the feature list isn’t really fancy. You only get a simple full LCD dash, ABS, and pannier mounts, along with LED lighting. There are no connectivity features, which is a bummer.

The TRK 251 is powered by a 250cc single-cylinder motor putting out 26PS and 21.1Nm, mated to a six-speed gearbox. While these numbers aren’t class-leading, the TRK 251’s low weight of 164kg (dry) and class-leading 18-litre fuel tank should make it a good bike to go the distance.

Next, the underpinnings. The engine is housed in a steel tube frame, sprung on a USD fork (with 135mm travel) and monoshock (with 60mm suspension travel). All this, coupled with its 170mm ground clearance and 17-inch alloys wrapped in road-biased rubber, makes the TRK 251 more of a soft-roader rather than a rugged off-roader like the Himalayan.

It’s good to see Benelli expand its BS6 portfolio with one of its international offerings. Not only does this open up a new set of customers for Benelli, it also caters to customers who find the TRK 502 expensive. More importantly, this also gives us hope that if this is successful, Benelli could also bring its TNT 300 to India again.

As for the TRK 251, we can’t wait to take it for a spin and pit it against its rivals to see how it stacks up. Till we do that, read our expansive spec comparison between the TRK 251 and the KTM 250 Adventure.
