The BSA Gold Star is an iconic nameplate that has been revived and officially launched in India by Mahindra and Classic Legends after so many years. The retro-roadster is powered by a 652cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine delivering 45.6PS at 6500rpm and 55Nm at 4000rpm. The engine is paired with a 5-speed gearbox.
The Gold Star features an analogue twin-pod instrument cluster (with an analogue speedometer and tachometer) that complements the bike's retro design. It also has an LCD inset in each pod, the left one includes the odometer and trip meter readings while the other one displays the the fuel gauge. There’s another small pod that displays the basic telltale lights. The retro-roadster also has a side-stand sensor, an anti-theft system and a USB charging port.
The BSA Gold Star has a 41mm telescopic fork at the front and 5-step preload-adjustable twin shocks at the rear. It gets a 320mm floating front disc, a 255mm rear disc (both with Brembo callipers), and dual-channel ABS as standard. The bike comes fitted with 18-inch front and 17-inch rear spoke wheels, with 100-section front and 150-section rear Pirelli Phantom Sportscomp tyres. The Gold Star has a seat height of 780mm and a kerb weight of 213kg.
BSA has positioned the Gold Star competitively against the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650. The entry-level Gold Star is priced at Rs 2,99,990, which is over Rs 3,000 cheaper than the Interceptor 650, starting at Rs 3,03,000 (both ex-showroom). It would be interesting to compare these bikes side by side to see which one comes out on top.
