Ducati has finally launched the Multistrada V2 in India. This is the Italian marque’s third of the 11 planned launches for our market.
What's The Price? Who Are Its Rivals?
The Ducati Multistrada V2 is available at Rs 14.65 lakh for the standard variant while the 'S' trim demands Rs 16.65 lakh. For reference, the outgoing Ducati Multistrada 950 S was priced at Rs 15.49 lakh (all prices ex-showroom India). The new Multistrada V2 takes on the likes of the BMW F 900 XR, which was updated earlier this month, and the Triumph Tiger 900 GT.
How Many Variants Are There?
The Ducati Multistrada V2 is available in Standard and ‘S’ trims. While the bikes share the majority of their hardware, the ‘S’ variant sports more electronics and creature comforts.
What's New?
The Ducati Multistrada V2 may seem like a rebadged 950, but there’s a lot more than what meets the eye. For starters, the ADV is now 5kg lighter than its predecessor, and tips the scales at 199kg for the Standard and 203kg for the S variant. The difference in weight can be credited to new rims (-1.7kg), Multistrada V4-sourced mirrors (-0.7kg), new aluminium front disc flanges (-0.5kg), and lighter engine components (-2kg).
Furthermore, Ducati has made changes to the ergonomics of the new Multistrada. The seat height now stands at 830mm (10mm lower than the Multi 950), and the seat profile is now narrower towards the front, which should allow riders to get their feet on the ground more easily. Ducati has even repositioned the footpegs and lowered them, which should make the bike more accommodating for taller riders.
What's Unchanged?
The Ducati Multistrada V2 continues to use the same 937cc L-twin motor from the previous model and dishes out 113PS at 9000rpm and 94Nm at 6750rpm, the same as before.
Ducati has retained the hardware of the outgoing model too. So, it continues with the fully-adjustable 48mm USD fork and monoshock setup for the standard variant, while the ‘S’ variant flaunts Ducati’s Skyhook electronic suspension. The Ducati Multistrada V2 features twin 320mm discs up front and a 265mm disc at the rear paired with Brembo callipers. It even continues with the 19/17-inch alloy wheel setup, with tubeless wire-spoke rims offered as an optional extra.
In a typical Ducati fashion, the Multistrada V2 features a comprehensive electronics package. So, the ADV packs cornering ABS, traction control, Vehicle Hold Control, Ducati Brake Light system, which switches on the hazard lights in case of emergency braking, all as standard. For the ‘S’ variant, Ducati has thrown-in cornering lights, cruise control, and a bi-directional quickshifter in addition to the standard electronic aids.
Furthermore, while the standard Multistrada features an LCD instrument console, the ‘S’ variant flaunts a 5-inch TFT colour display, complemented by backlit handlebar switches.
ZigSays
The Ducati Multistrada 950 S was an expensive machine and with the V2, the story remains the same. Considering that the competition is now available at a more affordable price, things will be more difficult for the Italian ADV.
