After debuting in markets abroad in November 2019, Mercedes-Maybach has finally brought over the Maybach-GLS SUV to India at a price tag of Rs 2.43 crore (ex-showroom). Essentially a more opulent version of the flagship Mercedes-Benz GLS SUV, the Maybach GLS gives luxury yachts or even airliners a run for their money with the luxuries it packs.
Before we get to the creature comforts, let’s first see what’s changed on the outside. The Maybach-GLS is wider by 31mm and taller by 15mm than the standard GLS. The exterior also gets plenty of chrome especially around the vertical slat grille. If you look closer up front, the three-pointed star has moved to the bonnet. Other notable bits include optional 22-inch or massive 23-inch chrome-finished alloy wheels and split-LED tail lamps connected by a chrome strip. The dual-tone red/black paint finish rounds off that premium feel. There are also eleven new colour options you can choose from
As mentioned, though, the cabin is where the Maybach GLS truly shines. At the rear you get two lounge-style individual seats with heated, ventilated, and massage functions. All this can also be controlled via a removable 7-inch MBUX tablet in the rear centre console. Other creature comforts include individual sunblinds, two optional 11.6-inch MBUX touchscreen entertainment screens behind the front seats, electric sunblinds, four-zone climate control, 64-colour ambient lighting as well as a fridge with champagne glasses.

Up front the cabin is largely similar to the standard GLS, albeit with a Maybach theme on the digital driver’s display and expensive bits of leather, wood, and metal. Other features include a panoramic sliding sunroof, a 13-speaker Burmester sound system, as well as wireless charging.
Powering the SUV is a sole bi-turbo 4.0-litre V8 engine combined with a 48Vmild hybrid system that delivers 558PSand 730Nm, and is paired to a 9-speed automatic transmission. Power is sent to all four wheels via Mercedes’ 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system. All this translates to a 0-100kmph sprint time of 4.9 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 250kmph.
The Mercedes-Maybach GLS is offered in the sole Maybach GLS 600 4MATIC trim at a hefty Rs 1.39 crore premium over the standard GLS that retails from Rs 1.04 crore (ex-showroom). It takes on other luxo-barge SUVs like the Bentley Bentayga and the Rolls-Royce Cullinan.
