Another year begins, and Renault India has decided to update its entry-level hatchback, the Kwid for the 2022 model year at prices starting from Rs 4.50 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). For starters, the base RXE has been given the axe, with the RXL now taking its place as the new base-spec Kwid. Interestingly, the RXL and RXT have now become cheaper by Rs 8,000 and Rs 9,000 than before. We’ve also lost the  RXT 0.8L, and RXL AMT variants. In place of some of the lost variants, there’s a new RXL (O) that has been added to the lineup just above the RXL. The remaining variants of the Kwid have become pricier in the range between Rs 9,000 to Rs 13,000, depending on the variant chosen.

Variant rejig aside, the Kwid’s now gotten a new set of 14-inch dual-tone flex wheels which adds a fresh outlook to the hatchback. Keeping up with that trend, there’s two new dual-tone shades in the form of Metal Mustard and Ice cool White. As for the monotone shades, Moonlight Silver and Zanskar Blue have been added to the colour pallete. In the top-spec Climber trims, the orange accents from before were replaced with white all over.

Head inside, and the white inserts replace the orange ones on the door trims as well as the touchscreen infotainment surround, and the black seats get a yellow contrast finish.  As for what’s new in the feature list, the seat belt pretensioners and load limiter are now a standard fitment.

It continues to be specced with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a digitised driver’s display, voice recognition, a 12V charger, and remote locking. Safety kit includes dual airbags, ABS with EBD, and rear parking sensors with camera.

Mechanically, it soldiers on with the option of 0.8-litre and 1-litre petrol engines. The former develops 54PS and 76Nm while the bigger 1-litre unit puts out 68PS and 91Nm. Both engines can be had with a 5-speed manual while the AMT is limited to the 1.0-litre unit.

While these updates are relatively minor, they should keep the Renault Kwid fresh against its rivals that include the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso and the Datsun redi-GO in the Indian market.
