Usually, special edition models are based on higher-end trims of vehicles with more features, but Skoda has launched the Kushaq Onyx Edition based on the entry-level Active trim. Like any other special edition Skoda, the Kushaq Onyx gets additional features and cosmetic changes.
But, before talking about what’s new, here’s where this edition slots in the SUV’s variant lineup:
Variants |
Ex-showroom Prices |
Active |
Rs 11.59 lakh |
Onyx Edition (New) |
Rs 12.39 lakh |
Ambition Classic |
Rs 12.99 lakh |
The price gap between the Active and Ambition Classic variants stand at a massive Rs 1.4 lakh. This special edition costs Rs 80,000 more than the base-spec Active, bridging the gap between both the trims.
As mentioned above, the Onyx variant builds upon the base-spec Active trim. And it does get useful additions such as LED projector headlamps with cornering fog lamps and a rear washer and wiper with defogger. Also, the SUV gets Onyx badging and body graphics on the side profile to denote it’s the special edition trim.
On the inside, though, save for Onyx branding on the headrests and side sills, automatic climate control is the only major feature addition. Other features are the same as the Active, including a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a base-spec MID, dual airbags and electronic stability control.
Only one powertrain option is available with the Onyx, i.e is the 115PS 1-litre turbo-petrol engine, paired with a six-speed manual. Automatic options and the more powerful 1.5-litre TSI engine are limited to the higher-end trims.
Onyx editions from Skoda stood for something sporty, like we saw with the Rapid and the previous generation of the Octavia. On that front, the Kushaq Onyx could’ve been better. That said, with its features additions, the Kushaq Onyx makes sense for those who want a well-loaded entry-level Skoda compact SUV.
