Japanese automaker Toyota showcased a slew of new cars from its global and Indian portfolio at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025. Its luxury division Lexus also presented its lineup along with two concept vehicles. The highlights at the pavilion were the upcoming Urban Cruiser BEV concept, Hilux Black Edition, Land Cruiser 300, LF-ZC concept, and LM. Toyota also showed off its fuel cell electric vehicle concept and a futuristic van concept. Here is a quick short look at what both carmakers showcased at their pavilions at the Auto Expo 2025.
The major attraction at the Toyota pavilion was the Urban Cruiser BEV concept. Based on the Maruti Suzuki eVX Concept, features a slightly distinct design to create a distinction between the two. While the interior was not revealed, we expect it to receive a similar layout found on the international-spec Toyota Urban Cruiser. Key highlights of the Urban Cruiser BEV concept include a dual-screen display, a panoramic sunroof, a JBL sound system, a 360-degree camera, and ADAS.
Powering the India-bound model could be two battery packs: a 49 kWh and another 61 kWh with an estimated maximum range of about 500 km. Unlike the Maruti e Vitara. Toyota may offer the Urban Cruiser with a choice of front-wheel and all-wheel drive. Expect Toyota to launch the electric vehicle sometime later this year.
Toyota also showcased the new Hilux Black Edition, hinting at its imminent market launch. The special edition model features an all-black paint scheme throughout except for a few elements. It carries over the same interior layout and theme, featuring an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, dual-zone AC, and 7 airbags.
The Black Edition of the Hilux gets a 2.8-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine producing 204 PS. The torque output is rated at 420 Nm for the 6-speed manual gearbox and 500 Nm for the 6-speed automatic transmission. Although Toyota has not confirmed its launch yet, we expect the special edition Hilux to go on sale in the coming months.
One of the world’s most popular nameplates, the Toyota Prius, was showcased at the Auto Expo 2025. In its fifth generation, the sedan claims to get the most efficient plug-in hybrid powertrain since its inception in 1997. It also features the brand’s new design language and a modern, tech-laden interior.
Underpinned by a second-gen TNGA-C platform, it comes powered by a 2-litre petrol engine paired with a transaxle front motor and a 13.6 kWh battery pack. The total system output is rated at 223 PS. Plus, it offers a brief electric-only driving range. However, the Prius PHEV showcased in India was not an ordinary model but a flex-fuel Prius PHEV that can run on ethanol, making it even greener.
Toyota has brought innovative technologies into the automotive world and it continues to work on such technologies, including fuel-cell electric vehicles. At the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, it showcased the Hilux Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV).
An FCEV uses hydrogen to generate electricity. Put simply, it generates electricity via a chemical reaction in a fuel cell stack created by hydrogen and oxygen. Hydrogen refuelling is also a no-brainer as it takes only about 5 minutes to up the tank. Not to mention the zero tailpipe emission it produces except for clean water. It is worth mentioning that Toyota has worked on fuel cell technology for the past 30 years.
The brand presented its funky and futuristic X-Van concept at the Auto Expo 2025. This concept features an upright and boxy design with mostly rounded-off panels throughout. It uses sliding front and rear doors that lead to a minimalist cabin. Speaking of which, the interior has a quirky dashboard, housing a central infotainment display in landscape orientation and a wide driver’s display.
With the aim to be an EV-only automaker by the end of this decade in Europe and worldwide by 2035, Lexus showed off its new direction with its LF-ZC concept at the Auto Expo 2025. The concept previews its direction in design for future models. Not only that, the brand has also developed a new electric-only platform and new battery technology. The latter claims to deliver twice the range of conventional electric cars.
Another concept at the Lexus pavilion was not an elegant saloon, nor a mammoth-size SUV or MPV. It was an ADV, called the ROV concept, which the brand referred to as a Recreational Off-highway vehicle. The crux of the concept is the 1-litre hydrogen engine with close to zero emissions. A familiar Lexus design, a dark bronze paint scheme, and another familiar design term Tazuna concept are highlights of the ROV.
Toyota also showcased its current lineup at the Bharat Auto Expo 2025, including the new Camry, Glanza, Innova Hycross, Fortuner Legender, Rumion, Land Cruiser 300, and Vellfire. On the other hand, Lexus presented the ES, LM, LX, NX, and RX.
