From Tata, MG, Mahindra To Porsche And Rolls Royce, 2024 Had These 12 EVs Launched In India

This year's electric car launches saw a good mix of Indian carmakers and foreign luxury marques standing parallel, to launch some standout products, to say the least.

Electric Vehicles are the future, and carmakers have acknowledged this with great force this year. We saw exciting new electric car launches from Indian giants like Tata and Mahindra, as well as luxury foreign automakers such as Mercedes, BMW, Porsche and even Rolls-Royce joining the party. In addition to innovations in tech and features, many of the EVs stood out with their extravagantly crafted designs and a well rounded package. Let’s take a deep dive into all the EV launches of this year:

Tata Punch EV

Launch Date: January 17
Price: Rs 10.99 lakh to Rs 14.49 lakh (ex-showroom)

Well, before dropping their electric SUV coupe, Tata motors released the electric counterpart to their bestselling ICE Punch micro-SUV, the Punch EV. Both the versions jointly held on to the popularity of the nameplate. It also introduced Tata’s Acti.ev platform which also underpins the Curvv EV.

 

Offered in a total of five broad variants, the Punch EV brings features like 10.25-inch infotainment and digital driver’s display, six airbags and ventilated front seats. It also gets two powertrain choices: a 25 kWh standard range battery paired with the motor to put out 82 PS / 114 Nm and a 35 kWh long-range pack with which the motor outputs 122 PS / 190 Nm. It has a claimed range of up to 421 km with the bigger battery pack.

Rolls Royce Spectre

Launch Date: January 19
Price: Rs 7.5 crore (ex-showroom)

Rolls-Royce has launched its all-electric luxury coupe, the Spectre, marking a major step in its transition to electric mobility. The Spectre combines Rolls-Royce's traditional grandeur with the latest in electric technology, making it an ultra-luxury vehicle that promises both sophistication and performance.

The interior of the Spectre showcases Rolls-Royce's signature craftsmanship, with a cabin featuring premium materials and a range of customisation options. It includes multiple screens, seat massage and ventilation functions, and multi-zone climate control. It is equipped with connected car technology, excellent sound insulation and a convenient one-tap door opening feature, ensuring comfort and sophistication.

Powering the Spectre is a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup that produces 593 PS and 900 Nm of torque. The electric coupe is equipped with a 102 kWh battery pack, offering a claimed range of up to 530 km on a single charge. With a 0-100 kmph time of just 4.5 seconds, the Spectre combines Rolls-Royce's trademark opulence with thrilling electric performance.

BYD Seal

Launch Date: March 5
Price: Rs 41 lakh to Rs 53 lakh (ex-showroom)

BYD has entered the premium electric sedan space with the Seal, their third all electric offering. The Seal is known for offering Lamborghini-like performance on the south of the Rs 1 crore mark.

The BYD Seal offers three powertrain configurations: The Dynamic variant features a single motor with rear-wheel drive (RWD), delivering 204 PS and 310 Nm of torque, paired with a 61.4 kWh battery offering a 510 km range. The Premium variant, also RWD, has a more powerful 313 PS motor, a larger 82.5 kWh battery, and a 650 km range. The Performance version uses dual motors with all-wheel drive (AWD), producing 530 PS and 670 Nm, offering a range of 580 km and accelerating from 0-100 kmph in just 3.8 seconds.

On the inside, the Seal impresses with a rotating 15.6-inch infotainment display, a digital driver’s display, and a focus on sustainability with a cabin made out of eco-friendly materials. Features include a premium audio system, a panoramic sunroof, and a full suite of ADAS functionalities for safety.

BMW i5 M60 XDrive

Launch Date: April 25
Price: Rs 1.2 Crore (ex-showroom)

The BMW i5 M60 xDrive, marking BMW’s debut into the performance luxury EV sedan space, was launched in India. The electric version of the 5 Series is launched in its performance avatar and as a result, has the looks to match its show.

Adding to the experience is a luxurious cabin with a curved display that combines a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display and a 14.9-inch infotainment screen as well as a superb ambient lighting show. Additional highlights include heated seats, adaptive air suspension, and advanced driver assistance systems.

Equipped with an 81.2 kWh battery pack, the i5 M60 xDrive offers an impressive WLTP-claimed range of up to 516 km. The battery powers dual motors, producing 601 PS and 795 Nm. It accelerates from 0-100 kmph in just 3.8 seconds and has a top speed of 230 kmph.

Porsche Macan EV

Launch Date: July 17
Price: Rs 1.22 crore to Rs 1.68 crore (ex-showroom)

The Porsche Macan EV introduced a more affordable entry-level variant alongside the Macan 4S and Macan Turbo. The entry-level model featured a single rear motor delivering 360 PS and 563 Nm. It is capable of sprinting from 0-100 kmph in 5.7 seconds, has a top speed of 220 kmph, and offers a WLTP claimed range of 641 km.

The Macan EV retained its dashboard layout, featuring a 12.6-inch digital display, a 10.9-inch touchscreen, an augmented reality heads-up display, and an optional screen for the passenger. New for all Macan models were updated display designs with a welcoming animation, app themes, and customizable background colors, as well as ambient lighting that could match the car’s exterior with 12 colour options. 

The Macan 4S, positioned between the entry-level and Turbo variants, boasts a dual motor setup generating 516 PS and 820 Nm. It reaches 0-100 kmph in 4.1 seconds, with a top speed of 240 kmph and a WLTP claimed range of up to 606 km. The Macan 4S also came with standard electronic damping control, adaptive air suspension with height adjustment, and rear-axle steering for enhanced dynamics.

Mercedes-Benz EQA 

Launch Date: July 8
Price: Rs 66 lakh (ex-showroom)

Mercedes-Benz launched the EQA in India at a price of Rs 66 lakh (ex-showroom). It’s based on the GLA, but gets a host of EV-specific design cues to set it apart from its internal combustion sibling.

The EQA is powered by a 66.5 kWh battery pack that offers a claimed range of up to 560 km on a full charge (WLTP cycle). The front-mounted electric motor delivers 190 PS and 385 Nm of torque, providing a smooth, yet responsive driving experience. It features fast-charging capabilities, allowing the battery to recharge from 10 to 80% in just around 30 minutes with 100 kW DC fast charging.

On the inside, the EQA boasts dual 10.25-inch digital displays for the instrument cluster and infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, incorporating the MBUX interface. The cabin features premium materials, a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, dual-zone climate control and a 360-degree camera. 

Mercedes-Benz EQB Facelift

Launch Date: July 8
Price: Rs 70.9 lakh (ex-showroom)

The Mercedes-Benz EQB SUV received a facelift in 2024 with a minor nip and tuck. The bigger change comes in the form of a new EQB 250+ variant with a 7-seat configuration and a larger battery, along with the EQB 350 4MATIC available in a 5-seater AMG Line trim.

The EQB is equipped with advanced features, including a dual-screen setup with a 12.3-inch digital driver's display and a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, supporting Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It also comes with a Burmester sound system, a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, powered front seats with memory function, wireless phone charging and safety features like Level-2 ADAS, a 360-degree camera and 7 airbags.

Powertrain options for the EQB include the EQB 250+, which is powered by a 70.5 kWh battery and a single motor producing 190 PS and 385 Nm, offering a range of up to 535 km. The EQB 350 4MATIC comes with a 66.5 kWh battery, dual motors, and all-wheel drive, generating 292 PS and 520 Nm, with a claimed range of 447 km.

Tata Curvv EV

Launch Date: August 7 
Price: Rs 17.49 lakh to Rs 21.99 lakh (ex-showroom)

Next on the list is a product from the Indian marque – Tata Motors, which introduced an unconventional design in the mass market segment. This Tata Curvv EV features a coupe-style roofline, hence being seen as an Urus for the middle-class Indian. 

 

Offered in three variants, it includes premium elements like flush-fitted door handles, a panoramic sunroof, a gesture-controlled tailgate and a 12.3-inch infotainment system. In terms of safety, it comes equipped with the usual shenanigans along with Level 2 ADAS. The SUV-coupe is available with two battery options: a 45 kWh medium-range pack with which the motor delivers 150 PS and 215 Nm, and a 55 kWh long-range pack that helps the motor produce 167 PS and 215 Nm. The long-range version has a claimed range of up to 585 km, with our real-world tests getting good enough figures hovering around the 350 km mark.

MG Windsor EV 

Launch Date: September 11
Price: Rs 9.99 lakh to Rs 15.5 lakh (ex-showroom)

Coming up next is MG Motor’s Windsor EV, which truly stood out in many aspects. Firstly, its unconventional and unique body style was quite unlike anything seen on Indian roads. This EV also introduced its battery rental scheme, where buyers pay for the battery usage in separate installments. 

Offered in three variants, the car comes with several modern features, including a large 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a panoramic glass roof, ventilated front seats, and 135-degree reclining rear seats. Equipped with a 38kWh battery pack paired with a front-mounted electric motor, it delivers an output of 136 PS and 200 Nm. This setup offers a claimed range of up to 331 km.

Kia EV9

Launch Date: October 3
Price: Rs 1.3 crore (ex-showroom)

Kia has introduced its flagship electric SUV, the EV9, in the Indian market, showcasing the brand's commitment to premium electric mobility. As Kia’s most luxurious offering, the EV9 is built on the E-GMP electric vehicle platform, which it shares with the EV6. The SUV boasts a futuristic design with a distinctive boxy silhouette, LED light elements, and boasts a commanding presence.

Inside, the EV9’s spacious cabin features premium touches such as dual 12.3-inch digital screens, a 5-inch display for the climate control, a head-up display, and a dual-pane panoramic sunroof. The SUV offers three-row seating with options for six or seven passengers and advanced ADAS features, including lane-keep assist and adaptive cruise control.

Powering the EV9 is a 99.8 kWh battery pack, delivering an impressive 561 km range (WLTP). The dual-motor AWD setup produces 384 PS and 600 Nm of torque, ensuring thrilling performance. This Kia’s ultra-fast charging capability supporting speeds up to 350 kW allows a 10% to 80% charge in just 24 minutes.

BYD eMax7

Launch Date: October 8, 2024
Price: Rs 26.9 lakh to Rs 29.9 lakh (ex-showroom)

BYD unveiled the facelifted version of its e6 MPV, rebranded as the eMax7, a three-row electric MPV focused on practicality and premium updates. The eMax7 featured a refreshed exterior design, improved cabin technology, and enhanced powertrain options compared to its predecessor.


Inside, the eMax7 comes equipped with a spacious three-row seating layout, offers a 12.8-inch rotating touchscreen infotainment system, ventilated front seats, a panoramic glass roof, and ambient lighting. Safety features include six airbags, a 360-degree camera, an electronic parking brake, and ADAS.

The eMax7 is offered with two battery pack options to suit varying driving needs. The 55.4 kWh battery pack provides a claimed range of up to 420 km. For extended travel, the larger 71.8 kWh battery pack offers a range of up to 530 km.

Mahindra BE 6

Launch Date: November 26 
Price: Starts at Rs 18.9 lakh (ex-showroom)

What was called previously as the BE 6e had to turn down the ‘e’ because well yes just after its bombarding launch it ran with an unprecedented brawl with Indigo airlines over the trademark. Keeping that bit aside, people are still processing if this really is just an electric vehicle or an UFO designed on four wheels. It looks nothing short of an alien on the Indian tarmacs and it's super cool.

Mahindra BE 6e Everest White

Inaugurating Mahindra’s subbrand, this ‘Born Electric’ SUV brought a futuristic cabin much like any fighter jet with features such as dual wireless phone chargers, illuminated glass roof, ventilated seats and 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system. Safety isn’t kept short either, sporting the likes of a 360-degree camera and level-2 ADAS. 

Under its hood, resides either among a 59 kWh or 79 kWh battery pack. With both you get a rear-wheel drive setup and while the motor with 59 kWh puts out 231 PS and 380 Nm, with the 79 kWh unit it delivers 286 PS and 380 Nm. It has a claimed range of up to 682 km with the bigger battery.

Mahindra XEV 9e

Launch Date: November 26 
Price: Starts at Rs 18.9 lakh (ex-showroom)

Mahindra’s electrification push continued with the XEV 9e, their flagship electric SUV under the XEV subbrand. The XEV 9e sports a coupe-design with illuminated DRLs stretching across its fascia. Its spacious cabin is equipped with premium features like a 43-inch triple display setup, dual zone climate control, powered and ventilated seats, seven airbags and a 360-degree camera.

It comes with a rear-wheel drive motor, powered by a choice of two battery packs: a 59 kWh unit paired with the 231 PS  motor or a 79 kWh pack along with the motor delivering 286 PS. The torque remains 380 Nm in both. The latter provides a claimed range of up to 656 km. Mahindra also incorporated Level 2 ADAS.

So to say, this year brought us quite many exciting EV launches signalling progress in this segment. However, the future in the same still stands arguably uncertain as demands and sales fluctuate. Nevertheless, we expect more innovations here in the coming times.
