The recently held Auto Expo 2025 brought a raft of new cars to India, including lots of electric vehicles and SUVs. Most of these SUVs are slated for market launch this year, including the first-ever electric SUV from Maruti Suzuki and Toyota to the new additions from Tata, MG, BYD, and Skoda. Here is the detailed list.
Showcased at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, the Tata Sierra ICE seemed to be near production. While the brand has presented the Sierra EV concept a few times in the country, this was the first time Tata was showcasing the Sierra ICE. We expect the SUV to get a new 170 PS 1.5-litre petrol engine alongside the 170 PS 2-litre diesel engine available with the on-sale Harrier and Safari.
Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest automaker, showcased the new e Vitara in production form at the Bharat Auto Expo 2025. Above all, the brand has announced that it will launch the SUV by March this year. It comes in two battery pack options with a maximum range of 500 km. Key features of the electric SUV include a 10-way powered driver’s seat, 7 airbags as standard, a dual-screen display, and a panoramic sunroof.
For the first time, Tata showcased the close-to-production Tata Harrier EV on the occasion of the Auto Expo 2025. It features a design similar to the on-sale Harrier except for a few exceptions including EV-specific design elements. It is likely that Tata will offer the electric SUV with a choice of two battery packs paired with a single motor. A dual-motor setup will also be available. It could offer a range of up to 500 km.
Tata Motors unveiled several new offerings at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, including two new special editions for its SUVs. The Nexon EV, Harrier, and Safari Bandipur Edition were showcased, paying tribute to Bandipur National Park in Karnataka. These models get a new paint option, a special edition badge on the fender, and a fresh interior theme matching the interior.
On the flip side, the carmaker also showcased the new Harrier EV and Safari Stealth Edition models. The pair comes with a matte black exterior with black alloy wheels and an all-black cabin. We expect these new special editions to go on sale soon.
While Mahindra did not showcase the new XEV 7e at the Auto Expo 2025, the three-row electric SUV was leaked on the internet a couple of times. It is essentially an electric equivalent of the on-sale XUV 700. Mahindra is likely to offer the EV with two battery pack options and a single motor setup. The launch is expected to take place sometime later this year.
Morris Garages (famously known as MG) revealed a range of cars at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 and amongst them is a new premium SUV from the carmaker, the Majestor, which is likely to sit above the on-sale Gloster. Although the brand has not disclosed any details about the SUV, it is expected to carry over the same 2-litre diesel engine from the Gloster with two distinct tunes. MG may launch the Majestor sometime later this year.
VinFast made its India debut at the Auto Expo 2025 in New Delhi with a wide variety of cars, especially SUVs. While the list of cars included the VF 3, VF e34, VF 6, VF 7, VF 8, and VF 9 along with the VF Wild electric pickup concept, it will introduce the VF 6 and VF 7 SUVs in India soon, marking its market debut. The VF 6 gets a single battery pack in some international markets with a maximum range of up to 410 km. The same powertrain option could be made available in India.
The VF 7 will be a new electric SUV offered by VinFast in India alongside the VF 6. In fact, the VF 7 sits above the VF 6. It carries a familiar design seen on the other VinFast models. Powering the VF 7 is a 75.3 kWh battery pack with a range of up to 431 km and 450 km depending on the battery pack. It also comes with a choice of front-wheel or all-wheel drive configurations with varying outputs.
BYD, the Chinese automaker, presented its new Sealion 7 – an electric SUV at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 alongside the Sealion 6. However, it will launch the Sealion 7 at first, featuring an 82.56 kWh battery pack paired with a single or dual-motor setup. It offers a maximum range of 567 km. Expect the launch of the new BYD Sealion 7 to happen in the coming months.
Czech automaker Skoda is all set to introduce its all-new lineup in India, including the new-gen Kodiaq in April 2025. The SUV will be one of the four new cars coming to the market this year. The new Kodiaq gets a fresh look, a completely new cabin, new and upgraded features, and an updated powertrain. Apart from the Kodiaq, the brand will also launch the new Octavia vRS, Superb, and Enyaq – its first-ever electric SUV.
Skoda will bring its another SUV, the new Enyaq, to India as its first-ever electric offering for the market. It will be launched in India in October this year. The new model recently made its global debut, showcasing a new design language, called the Modern Solid, that debuted with the Vision 7S concept in 2022. The interior design takes inspiration from the new Kodiaq and Superb. It offers a range of battery pack options with a maximum WLTP range of up to 580 km or 590 km depending on the body style.
Toyota showcased its new Urban Cruiser BEV Concept at the Auto Expo 2025. While the electric SUV has already made its global debut, it was shown as a concept form in India. Notably, the Urban Cruiser will be based on the Maruti Suzuki e Vitatara, featuring a similar design and interior. For India, the automaker is likely to offer its Urban Cruiser with two battery pack options and also a choice of dual motor setup, which the India-spec Maruti Suzuki e Vitara will not offer.
Although this was a short list of the upcoming SUVs in India this year, a few surprise launches or unveils could take place going forward. The major highlights from these upcoming SUVs will revolve around the Maruti e Vitara, Tata Harrier EV, Tata Sierra ICE, Toyota Urban Cruiser BEV, and MG Majestor.
