Bharat NCAP has crash-tested numerous cars since its inception, including the newest electric vehicles from Mahindra and Tata. It is interesting to note that almost every car tested by BNCAP has received a 5-star rating for both adult and child occupants. The notable cars awarded safety ratings are the Mahindra Thar Roxx, Mahindra BE 6, Skoda Kylaq, Hyundai Tucson, and Citroen Basalt. Additionally, most of the cars that have undergone the tests are from Indian automakers, particularly Mahindra and Tata. That being said, here is the list of top 10 cars, which secured the highest safety rating from Bharat NCAP.
The recently introduced Mahindra XEV 9e became the first vehicle tested by BNCAP to score a perfect full score in adult passenger protection. Not only did it receive a 5-star rating but also secured 32 out of 32 points for adult occupant protection and 45 out of 49 points for child occupant protection. It has been priced from Rs 21.90 lakh (ex-showroom).
The second car on the list is the new Mahindra BE 6. Alongside the full 5-star rating, the futuristic-looking electric SUV scored 31.97 out of 32 points for adult passenger protection, while it secured 45 out of 49 points for child passenger protection. The prices of the SUV start at Rs 18.90 lakh (ex-showroom).
After receiving a 5-star safety rating from Bharat NCAP, the new Kylaq became the first car to be tested in 2025 and is now the safest sub-compact SUV in its segment. Priced from Rs 7.89 lakh (ex-showroom), Skoda’s Kylaq received 30.88 out of 32 points for adult occupant protection, whereas it received 45 out of 49 points for child occupant protection – the same as the Mahindra XEV 9e and BE 6.
The Thar Roxx or famously known as the Thar 5-door underwent a crash test in late last year, securing a complete 5-star safety rating. Bharat NCAP awarded it 31.09 out of 32 points for adult passenger protection and 45 out of 49 points for child occupant protection, which is identical to the Skoda Kylaq and its siblings the BE 6 and XEV 9e. The prices of the Thar Roxx start at Rs 12.99 lakh (ex-showroom).
Another all-electric Tata model in the list is the Punch EV, which scored a full five-star crash test rating from Bharat NCAP in May 2024. The electric SUV received 31.46 out of 32 points and 45 out of 49 points for adult and child occupant protection, respectively. The Citroen eC3 rival has been priced from Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Notably, the prices of the Tucson start at Rs 29.26 lakh (ex-showroom).
Tested in November 2024, the Hyundai Tucson, a rival to the Skoda Kodiaq and Volkswagen Tiguan, is the only premium car or SUV in the list of the 10 highest crash test scorers. It gets a 5-star safety rating across the board. The SUV scored 30.84 out of 32 points and 41 out of 49 points for adult and child passenger protection, respectively.
An electric coupe crossover from Tata Motors, the Curvv EV, was tested by Bharat NCAP in late 2024, where it bagged a full 5-star rating alongside one of the highest scores for protecting its passengers. The Curvv EV secured 30.81 out of 32 points for adult passenger protection and 44.83 out of 49 points for child occupant protection. The electric coupe has been priced from Rs 17.49 lakh (ex-showroom).
The fourth Mahindra in the list has also added another feather in the brand cap with a complete five-star safety rating. Tested in late 2024, the sub-4 metre SUV scored 30.38 out of 32 points for adult passenger safety, while 43 out of 49 points were awarded for child occupant protection. Meanwhile, it has been priced from Rs 16.74 lakh (ex-showroom).
The first-ever cars to be tested by the newly incorporated Bharat NCAP were from Tata Motors. BNCAP tested the Harrier facelift and Safari facelift in December 2023 — both scoring a full 5-star safety rating. They received 30.08 out of 32 points for adult occupant protection and 44.54 out of 49 points for child passenger protection. The Harrier is priced from Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom), while the prices of the Safari start at Rs 15.50 lakh (ex-showroom).
Last but not least, the fifth car from Tata and the final model in our list is the Nexon EV. The Skoda Kylaq rival achieved a 5-star safety rating in the Bharat NCAP crash test in May 2024. It bagged 29.86 out of 32 points and 44.95 out of 49 points for adult and child occupant protection. Notably, the Nexon EV is priced from Rs 12.49 lakh (ex-showroom).
While the Mahindra XEV 9e tops the list for its achievement in the adult occupant protection rating, the Skoda Kylaq is now the only sub-compact SUV to achieve the highest safety rating amongst its rivals. We expect more crash tests to take place this year with new cars breaking records for the highest safety rating.
