2021 has been a somewhat muted year for Maruti Suzuki with barely any new launches. But all that is about to change as India’s largest carmaker is set to introduce, not one, but eight new models in 2022. Two cars are set to get a generation update while five vehicles will facelifted to keep it up to date. There will also be an all-new SUV that will sit in the popularly contested compact SUV segment.
So without further ado, here’s the scoop on new and updated Marutis in 2022:
New Hyundai Creta Rival In The Making
Expected Price: Rs 9 lakh to Rs 15 lakh
The compact SUV segment is one of the hottest in the country, and it’s quite conspicuous that Maruti doesn’t have a model to compete with the likes of the Creta and Seltos. But that is due to change soon as the homegrown carmaker will introduce a premium compact SUV in 2022. The upcoming SUV should be feature loaded, spacious, and could come with a petrol engine with mild-hybrid tech. We’ll keep you updated as we get more information.
Second-gen Vitara Brezza
Expected Price: Rs 7.99 lakh to Rs 14 lakh
Despite the Vitara Brezza being a petrol-only model, the sub-compact SUV has topped the segment’s sales chart for most of its life. Maruti will keep the momentum going by giving the SUV a generation update next year with fresh looks and more features. The existing Vitara Brezza is also one of the safest Maruti cars in India (four star Global NCAP rating) and we expect the new-gen model to be as good or even stronger.
New Alto 800
the automobile community
Expected Price: Rs 3.2 lakh to Rs 5 lakh
The Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 has been one of the most popular vehicles in the country as an entry-level compact. The latest iteration has been spotted testing, and by the looks of it, the new Alto seems to be larger than the model it replaces. But don’t expect a major jump when it comes to features and performance. We hope Maruti also offers it with an optional AMT to make life easier in the urban jungle.
Facelifted Ciaz
Expected Price: Rs 9 lakh to Rs 12 lakh
The Ciaz has racked up decent numbers for Maruti Suzuki, but there’s no denying that it’s one of the oldest models in its segment. So to bring the sedan up to date, Maruti Suzuki will be giving it a facelift. It should boast all the latest features to keep positioning it as a viable option against the Honda City and the upcoming Skoda/VW sedans.
New Baleno
Expected Price: Rs 6 lakh to Rs 9.99 lakh
The new Baleno has already been spotted doing the rounds ahead of its launch. While the exterior design might seem reminiscent, the premium hatch will get an all-new interior. Even the infotainment system has been updated and features a new user interface. The hatch should retain the existing set of 1.2-litre petrol engines as their performance is more than enough to do the job.
Facelifted S-Cross
Expected Price: Rs 8.7 lakh to Rs 12.99 lakh
Of late, the S-Cross has been a slow seller due to immense competition from the better equipped Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and MG Astor. Maruti Suzuki will be giving the crossover a second major update to keep things fresh until its successor arrives. Only time can tell what updates are stored for the facelifted crossover but expect it to retain its position as a value-for-money offering that covers all the basic needs.
Facelifted Ertiga
Expected Price: Rs 7.99 lakh to Rs 10.99 lakh
Maruti’s people mover sits in a free space and has been enjoying a decent amount of success despite being a petrol-only model. In a bid to keep the Ertiga relatively fresh, Maruti will be facelifting the MPV in 2022. Updates are likely to be limited to cosmetics and features with no changes expected to its powertrains.
Facelifted Wagon R
Expected Price: Rs 4.99 lakh to Rs 6.5 lakh
The Maruti Suzuki Wagon R got a generation update back in 2019 and has been among the top 10 sellers in the country since then. To keep the tallboy hatchback relevant against rivals, Maruti could give it minor cosmetic and feature revisions. The 1-litre and 1.2-litre petrol engines will be carried over as they are.
These are the eight Maruti cars that are slated to be launched in 2022. Which one are you waiting for? Let us know in the comments below.
