In the last few years, the electric vehicle (EV) market has rapidly expanded in India with the advent of new global all-electric imported models. Although this change is unlikely to significantly increase EV adoption (owing to their invariably high prices), it has given us some drool-worthy performance sports cars and luxury EVs that’ll soon make car spotting even more fun in our cities. Here’s a list of the 5 EVs that you can have in India above Rs 1 crore:
Price: Rs 1.07 crore (ex-showroom)
With its 5.1-second 0-100kmph time, this electric family SUV is quicker than most luxury sedans that you’ll find on our roads. The Mercedes EQC chugs along quietly for 370-400km (WLTP range), and offers active safety and driver assistance features. It’s the only electric Merc you can buy in India right now, but in the future, we expect the EQS and EQE luxury sedans and the EQB SUV to arrive in India, too.
Audi e-tron
Price: Rs 1 crore (ex-showroom)
The e-tron SUV is a 360PS highway scorcher that gets you from 0-100kmph in just 5.7 seconds! Its least expensive e-tron 50 Quattro variant has 312PS/540Nm, and a healthy range of 350km despite its 2.4-ton weight. Put your foot down and there’s ‘Boost’ mode which gets you another 48PS in the top-spec e-tron 50 Quattro variant to deliver up to 408PS . You’ll have to cough up around Rs 17 lakh more to get the quickest e-tron, and the Sportback coupe-SUV is more expensive still.
Price: Rs 1.5 crore (ex-showroom)

The Porsche Taycan is the least expensive performance EV you can buy in India at the moment. It has the 4-seater practicality, the speed and power of a Porsche 911, and a starting price that’s drool-worthy! The quickest Taycan has 761PS of power that gets you from 0-100kmph in a mind-numbing 2.8 seconds. Even the base variant is no slouch with its 408PS electric motor, and all Taycans have an 800-volt charging system that can juice up the battery in just 23 minutes if you plug it into the right DC fast charger.
Price: Rs 1.05 crore (ex-showroom)
The Jaguar I-Pace is a capable AWD SUV that sprints to 100kmph in just 4.8 seconds. It’s powered by a 408PS electric motor that churns out nearly 700Nm of torque, and you can even get it with blacked-out trim in the I-Pace Black edition. The SUV has a 90kWh battery good for a range of 470km. Moreover, the I-Pace has bagged the prestigious ‘World Car Of The Year’ award thrice!
Price: Rs 1.8 crore(ex-showroom)
If you think EVs will always be more expensive than petrol and diesel cars, consider this: at Rs 2.05 crore, the Audi e-tron GT RS offers you a similarly fast car for a full crore less than a Lamborghini Huracan. The RS variant is a 600PS/830Nm sports sedan that zips to 100kmph in just 3.3 seconds. You can save a few lakhs by settling for the regular 471PS/630Nm variant that is no slouch either.
