Nowadays, most top-spec hatchbacks, sedans, and SUVs offer you an infotainment touchscreen paired with a decent factory-fitted branded audio system. But although most touchscreen options in the new-car market offer decent feedback and connectivity options, the speakers paired with that system aren't always so sophisticated.
We expect a bespoke sound system to be specced with speakers and a subwoofer that are matched with the amplifier and engineered in the car's development phase. With that in mind, here are the top hatchbacks, sedans, and SUVs under Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom) and offering premium sound systems:
MG Hector and Hector Plus
Price: Rs 13.49 lakh to Rs 19.99 lakh
The MG Hector gets an impressive Infinity sound system with eight speakers, a subwoofer, and an amplifier. You can get this system with a 6 or 7-seat configuration in the Hector Plus too. The system is paired with a portrait-style 10.4-inch touchscreen with connected car tech, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, and it's available in the higher-spec Smart and top-spec Sharp variants.
Price: Rs 10.16 lakh to Rs 17.87 lakh
You can get a decent 6-speaker Arkamys sound system with all mid-spec Hyundai Creta variants. But if you can splurge on the top-spec SX(O) trim level, Hyundai gives you an 8-speaker Bose sound system! It comes with speakers on the front and rear doors, a subwoofer, and even a 'front central speaker' mounted in the dashboard! You can get 2 tweeters and 4 speakers paired with an 8-inch touchscreen from the EX model onward. Unfortunately, the base variant doesn't get a sound system or speakers.
Price: Rs 4.99 lakh to Rs 7.81 lakh

Tata has been offering a Harman setup in all its cars for several years, but the ones in the Tiago and Tigor twins stand out in their respective segments. You get a set of four component speakers, each paired with a crisp-sounding tweeter. The low-frequency domes move enough air in the relatively small cabin to compensate for the lack of a subwoofer. You can get this sound system in the XZA and XZA+ variants. Except for the base variant, all trim levels get at least four coaxial speakers as standard fitment.
Price: Rs 6.89 lakh to Rs 13.55 lakh
The top-spec HTX+ and GTX+ are the safest Sonet variants you can buy, and they get a 7-speaker Bose sound system. For a slightly lower price, the mid-spec HTX variant gets a 2-tweeter, 4-speaker (2 component, 2 coaxial) setup from Arkamys.
Price: Rs 6.91 lakh to Rs 11.40 lakh
Higher-spec Asta and Asta(O) variants of the Hyundai i20 come with a 7-speaker Bose setup, too. It comes paired with a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen. Impressively, a 4-speaker, 2-tweeter setup is standard across the range, and even the mid-spec Sportz variant has an 8-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Price: Rs 5.49 lakh to Rs 9.09 lakh
The 4-speaker 2-tweeter setup on the Tata Punch is paired with a 7-inch touchscreen Harman head unit, and it’s available in the higher-spec Accomplished and top Creative trim levels. You can add the screen and tweeters to the mid-spec Adventure trim level by opting for the Rhythm pack. The base model doesn’t get a sound system or speakers as standard, but with the Rhythm pack, you can get a 4-speaker setup for an additional Rs 35,000.
Price: Rs 10.49 lakh to Rs 17.59 lakh
Even the base Skoda Kushaq variant comes with a 6-speaker sound system paired with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wired Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. You can get a larger 10-inch infotainment screen with wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay in the mid-spec Ambition variant. But Skoda’s premium sound system, with 6 speakers and a subwoofer, is reserved for the top-spec Style variant.
Price: Rs 11.16 lakh to Rs 15.11 lakh
Honda offers its 8-inch infotainment system as standard fitment, and even the base variant gets a set of 4 speakers. The mid-spec VX and top-spec ZX come with an 8-speaker ‘premium surround sound’ setup. Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Alexa connectivity are standard across the variant range.
