Carlin’s Jehan Daruvala has kicked off his return to Formula 2 after the summer break in strong fashion qualifying a close second for the feature race at the fifth round of the season at Monza, Italy. The Red Bull Junior driver's teammate, Dan Ticktum, lines up eighth on the grid.
The first runs saw Daruvala go seventh fastest with Ticktum third, but the field spread was extremely close with just one second covering the top 20 drivers. With the slipstream effect at Monza giving a decent lap time advantage, Daruvala took full advantage of that to catapult himself into second place. And it was extremely close, with the Indian driver just 0.041s off scoring his maiden pole position in Formula 2.
Jehan Daruvala will be lining up 9th on the grid for the first of the two sprint races, thanks to the top 10 reverse grid rules kicking in. The grid order for the second sprint race will be determined by the top 10 finishers (from Sprint Race 1) reversed.
The first sprint race will take place on Saturday, 12:15pm (IST), followed by the second one at 6:10pm (IST). All races will be broadcast on Eurosport.
