Carlin’s Jehan Daruvala wrapped up the third round of the 2021 FIA Formula 2 Championship with a seventh place finish in the feature race in Baku. On the other side of the garage, Dan Ticktum recovered well from incidents, penalties and extra pit stops to finish in eighth position.
Starting ninth on the grid, Daruvala got off to yet another brilliant start, taking advantage of incidents up front to jump up to fifth position at the end of the opening lap. Throughout the first stint, the Indian driver was on for a decent recovery from his starting position.
However, once Daruvala made his one and only pitstop of the race, he started losing pace compared to the drivers ahead, also losing a couple of positions in the process. In the end, Daruvala did manage to hold on to seventh place at the chequered flag.
It may not have been the best way for Daruvala to finish the third round of the season, but it is a consistent bag of results compared to the difficult run of races at Monaco. In the driver’s standings, Daruvala climbs up to seventh overall, inching ever closer to championship leader Guanyu Zhou who had a weekend to forget.
There’s going to be a long wait before Formula 2 returns to racing action at Silverstone for the fourth round of the season scheduled to run from July 16-18.
