Carlin’s Jehan Daruvala capped off the fifth round of the 2021 FIA Formula 2 Championship with a 5th-place finish in the feature race at Monza. His teammate Dan Ticktum benefitted from a strategy and safety car gamble to finish third.
Starting second on the grid, Daruvala unfortunately couldn’t replicate his race-winning start from yesterday and dropped to fourth at the end of the opening lap. That being said, the Indian driver sneaked onto third place during his one and only pitstop during the safety car period.
Throughout the race, Daruvala was locked in intense battles with the UNI-Virtuosi of Guanyu Zhou and ART’s Theo Pourchaire, with the latter dropping Daruvala back down to fourth. With teammate Dan Ticktum on a fresher and softer compound of tyres, Daruvala was dropped down to fifth at the end.
While not the ideal way to end Round 5 of the season after a brilliant win yesterday, it was another top five finish for Jehan Daruvala to cap off a strong points haul.
Formula 2 will return to racing action in a couple of weeks time at Sochi, Russia, for the sixth round of the season, scheduled for September 24-26.
