An unfortunate late race incident dropped the Indian driver out of a strong top-five finish

It was an unfortunate start to the race weekend for Carlin’s Jehan Daruvala, as the Indian driver dropped to 12th after fighting in the top five for the sprint race at the sixth round of the 2021 FIA Formula 2 World Championship. On the other hand, his Red Bull Junior teammate Dan Ticktum managed to hold on to the lead to take victory.

As weather played havoc on proceedings for the entirety of Saturday, there was only one sprint race instead of the originally scheduled two sprint races. Starting ninth on the grid, Daruvala made full use of the changeable track conditions to gain a couple of spots early on and started clawing his way up the field.

The Indian driver was putting in a strong performance, and was up to fifth position and well within the fight for a podium spot. But with just two laps to go, Daruvala spun out, dropping to 12th place and out of the points-scoring positions, an unfortunate end to what was a strong drive for the majority of the race.

Fortunately for Daruvala, his strong qualifying performance from yesterday means he’ll be starting second on the grid for the feature race tomorrow. This should give him a chance to make amends and possibly snatch a race win.

The feature race will commence at 1:45pm (IST). All races will be broadcast on EuroSport.
