A severe lack of racing laps in the sprint race limited the Indian driver’s chances of making up ground

Prema Racing’s Jehan Daruvala managed to survive a safety car riddled sprint race to muster a seventh place finish at the second round of the 2022 FIA Formula 2 World Championship in Jeddah. As for his teammate and fellow Red Bull junior driver, Dennis Hauger, a major confusion during the safety car period left him last of the finishers, costing a potential win.

While Daruvala qualified 15th, grid penalties up front promoted him to 13th on the grid. On the opening lap, the Indian driver managed to make up a couple of positions, but his charge was immediately halted via a safety car.

The safety car featured for the majority of the race, and we only really got five to six laps of proper racing towards the end. Nonetheless, Jehan Daruvala managed to make his way up to ninth position in the end. Add on a few post race penalties up front, and the Indian driver was promoted to seventh place.
