It seems that lady luck wasn’t on Jehan Daruvala’s side, as the Prema Racing driver retired from the feature race at Spain. His teammate and fellow Red Bull junior driver, Dennis Hauger, capped off a tough weekend for Prema Racing, finishing in 14th position.
Starting fourth, the Indian driver lost a place at the start thanks to being on a harder compound of tyres. But crucially, he was set to play the long game as once he would make his mandatory pit for softer tyres he could play a major factor in the fight for a potential podium or win.
Unfortunately we never got to see that materialise as a technical issue meant the Indian driver’s race only lasted till Lap 4. In the end, it was a race of what could have been as Daruvala was the top runner on the harder tyres at that point.
This DNF does put a massive dent to Jehan Daruvala’s title chances, but he still holds third in the drivers standings. Nevertheless, it will be a long uphill battle for the Indian driver to overcome the 45-point deficit to the championship leader, Felipe Drugovich.
It won’t be long before Formula 2 cars will be back racing again, as the grid will head to Monaco next week for the fifth round of the 2022 season.
