Saturday couldn’t have gone any more perfect for Prema Racing, as Jehan Daruvala finished a strong second at the sprint race in Monaco. His teammate and fellow Red Bull junior driver, Dennis Hauger, took his maiden win in F2, making it a Prema 1-2 finish.
Starting third on the grid for the 30-lap race, the Indian driver took full advantage of polesitter Jake Hughes’ stalling on the grid to move up to second place. Daruvala did try to pressure his teammate Hauger early on, but with the tight nature of the Monaco street circuit, making a pass stick was going to be extremely difficult. In the end, the Indian driver had to settle for second position at the chequered flag.
With championship-leader Felipe Drugovich’s DNF from the sprint race, this result allows Jehan Daruvala to close the points gap up a little bit in the drivers standings. There’s still the main 42-lap feature race on Sunday left to run, where the Indian driver will be starting eighth as Friday’s qualifying results determine the grid.
The final race of the weekend will commence at 1:35pm (IST) and will be broadcast on Star Sports.
