Carlin’s Jehan Daruvala had a mixed recovery from his difficult feature race, finishing 16th in the sprint race of round 7 of the FIA Formula 2 World Championship at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium. His teammate and fellow Red Bull junior driver Yuki Tsunoda also had a tough sprint race to finish 9th after incurring a five second penalty for an incident with Callum Ilott.
Starting 19th, Daruvala gained a couple of places thanks to incidents further up the field. In addition to that, two safety car periods ran for nearly half the race. Once racing resumed, the Indian driver slowly made his way up the field and was upto 13th at one point. But an incident with Marino Sato in the closing stages earned Daruvala a 10-second time penalty, pushing him down to 16th at the chequered flag.
While it looks like another difficult end to a race weekend for Jehan Daruvala, the Indian driver was having a good turn of pace despite nearly half the race under the safety car. Daruvala could have been well within the fight for the top 10 were it not for the late race incident.
F2 action will resume next week at Monza for round 8 of the season from September 4-6.
