The Indian couldn’t improve on his pace throughout the session

The fourth round of the FIA Formula 2 Championship at the Silverstone circuit saw an intense qualifying session with Carlin’s  Jehan Daruvala qualifying 7th on the grid for the feature race closely followed by teammate Yuki Tsunoda in 8th.

The two Red Bull junior drivers started off the weekend in strong fashion during free practice with Tsunoda 1st and Daruvala 2nd. And this momentum looked to have carried over in qualifying as well in the first half of the 30 minute session. Daruvala’s initial lap put him on pole whereas Tsunoda lined up 4th and only mere hundredths separating the two drivers.

But as we got towards the closing stages of qualifying, neither Jehan Daruvala nor Yuki Tsunoda improved on their personal best lap times. This led to Daruvala being relegated to 7th place and Tsunoda lining up 9th for tomorrow’s feature race.

Some positives for the Carlin drivers is that if either of them finish the feature race in the Top 8, both could end up with a strong starting position for the sprint race on Sunday by virtue of the top eight finishers from the feature race lining up in a reversed order.

Daruvala will be hoping to overcome start-line gremlins that plagued him in the previous rounds. The feature race commences on Saturday at 8:15pm (IST). It will be streamed live on the official F1 YouTube channel.
