The FIA Formula 2 Championship’s return to racing at the Bahrain International Circuit saw Carlin’s Jehan Daruvala qualify 8th for the feature race of the penultimate round of the season. His teammate and fellow Red Bull junior driver Yuki Tsunoda couldn’t set a laptime and is starting from the back of the grid for the feature race.
While the two Carlin drivers were strong in Practice with Daruvala 3rd and Tsunoda in 2nd and 3rd, qualifying was a different story altogether. The early runs were interrupted with Daruvala 11th and Tsunoda having a spin and causing a red flag due to a technical issue. Post the red flag, the sole Carlin of Daruvala did improve to 8th but was still a long way off pole position.
Heading into the final few runs, Daruvala initially improved his lap time, but his position remained unchanged. Unfortunately another red flag was called with just a minute to go, which hampered Jehan Daruvala’s chances for a last flying lap.
That said, the Indian driver is in a good grid slot for the 32-lap (60 minutes) feature race, as the top eight finishers will line up in reversed order for Sunday’s sprint race.
The feature race commences on Saturday at 2:40pm (IST) and will be streamed live on the official F1 YouTube channel.
