The past week, with a variety of motorsport disciplines on two and four wheels

There was no dearth of racing action over the last seven days, with different categories satiating your motorsport fix with Formula One and Formula 2 at Baku as well as the prestigious 24hrs of LeMans Here’s everything that transpired:

Formula One

The eighth round of the season at Baku saw Ferrari suffer yet another implosion, which Red Bull Racing took full advantage of, with Max Verstappen taking top honours, and teammate Sergio Perez making it a 1-2 finish, at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.  George Russell scored another podium with a third-place finish for Mercedes. This result extended Verstappen’s and Red Bull Racing’s stranglehold at the top of the drivers and constructors standings.

Formula 2

Despite two chaotic races at Baku, Prema Racing’s Jehan Daruvala managed a consistent weekend. In the sprint race, the Indian driver finished a close second which could’ve been a win were it not for a costly lockup in the closing laps. In the feature race, the Red Bull junior driver managed to stay out of trouble to finish a strong fourth. Daruvala holds on to third in the driver’s standings and has closed the gap to second-placed Theo Pourchaire.

It’s another year, and another iteration of the prestigious 24hrs of LeMans. And Toyota Gazoo Racing continues its domination with a fifth consecutive win with the No.8 trio of Sebastien Buemi, Brendon Hartley, and Ryo Hirakawa. The No.7 trio of Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi and Jose Maria Lopez made it a Toyota 1-2 finish, with the Glickenhaus trio of Ryan Briscoe, Richard Westbrook and Frank Malleux rounding off the top three finishers.

MotoGP

A big piece of the rider puzzle for 2023 has fallen into place as Jack Miller will part ways with Ducati and join the factory KTM squad. The Australian will ride alongside Brad Binder, replacing Miguel Oliveira. That said, there are still plenty of seats left to fill, but expect the rider market to begin taking shape as we head further into the second half of 2022.

Next week will see Formula One head to Canada after a three-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, while MotoGP will return to racing action at the Sachsenring.
