This past week saw more than enough motorsport action to quench the thirst of aficionados, with races having taken place in a variety of disciplines. We had Formula One, Formula 2 and Formula 3 at Barcelona, the second round of the 2022 DTM season at Lausitzring and WRC tackle the fast and technical gravel roads of Portugal. Here’s everything that transpired:
With Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc suffering his first retirement of the season, it was a dream result for Red Bull Racing, as Max Verstappen overcame a spin and DRS issues to take his fourth win of the season. Teammate Sergio Perez made it a 1-2 finish, with Mercedes’ George Russell finishing third. This result puts Verstappen on top of the driver standings, six points ahead of Leclerc, with Red Bull Racing now leading Ferrari by 26 points in the constructor standings.
It was a tale of two halves for Jehan Daruvala in the fourth round of the 2022 Formula 2 season held in Spain. In the sprint race, the Indian driver managed to finish a strong fourth after starting seventh. In the feature race, the Prema Racing driver was set to be a factor being on an alternate tyre strategy. But, a technical failure meant he had an early retirement. Nevertheless, he holds onto third place in the driver standings.
It was a tough third round of the 2022 Formula 3 season for Kush Maini, as the MP Motorsport driver only managed to finish 17th in the sprint race. Things didn’t get better in the feature race either, as the Indian driver had to settle for 25th position, not helped by the circuit being notorious for making overtaking difficult.
Toyota Gazoo Racing’s Kalle Rovenpera continued his strong momentum by taking his third consecutive rally win at Rally Portugal. Teammate Elfyn Evans made it a Toyota Gazoo Racing 1-2 finish, with Hyundai Motorsport’s Dani Sordo rounding off the podium in third place. This result leaves Ravenpora stretching out his advantage in the driver standings to 46 points over Hyundai Motorsport’s Thierry Neuville.
Arjun Maini had a mixed weekend at the second round of the 2022 DTM season at the Lausitzring. In Race 1, The Haupt Racing Team Mercedes driver managed a strong drive to fourth, but, in the second race, the Indian driver was caught up in an incident on the opening lap. Nevertheless, Maini recovered to finish 13th.
Next week is set to be another action-packed one, as F1 and F2 will head to Monaco, with MotoGP heading to Mugello.
