An action-packed week of racing in various motorsport disciplines dominated headlines

Like the week before, the last seven days were full of racing action. We had MotoGP at Jerez, Formula E racing in Monaco, and the 2022 DTM season opener at Portimao. Here’s everything that transpired:

MotoGP

While the sixth round of the 2022 MotoGP season at Jerez was a relatively straightforward race, we saw the factory Ducati of Francesco Bagnaia and Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo in a league of their own in the battle for the win. Both lapped within mere hundredths of each other, with the gap not going over seven tenths at any point of the race. Eventually, it was Bagnaia who crossed the line to take his first win of the season. Aprilia’s Aleix Espargaro rounded off the top three finishers in third. In the riders standings, reigning champion Quartararo now holds a seven-point lead over Aleix Espargaro.

Formula E

The seventh round of the 2022 ABB FIA Formula E season saw energy management play a decisive factor at Monaco with the race lead consistently changing hands over the course of the 45-minute + 1 lap E-Prix. In the end, Stoffel Vandoorne crossed the chequered flag to take the first win of the season for Mercedes. Polesitter Mitch Evans finished second for Jaguar Racing, and DS TeCheetah’s Jean Eric Vergne finished in third position. This leaves Vandoorne leading the drivers' standings by six points to Vergne, with Evans another three points back.

Arjun Maini had a quiet start to his second season in DTM at Portimao. The Haupt Racing Team Mercedes driver qualified 15th for Race 1 and finished in 17th position. While the Indian driver qualified 22nd for the second race, he made up a lot of ground to finish 13th in the end.

Next week will see Formula One head to Miami for the fifth round of the 2022 season, with the FIA World Endurance Championship returning to racing action at the 6hrs of Spa-Francorchamps.
