Back in November, it was revealed that Coimbatore was going to get a second racetrack in India via a tie-up between Mumbai Falcons and the Coimbatore Auto Sports & Transport Trust (CoASTT). Now, we’ve gotten a closer look at the layout of the fourth circuit in India via a virtual lap.
We already know that a lap around the circuit will be around 3.8km in length, and will meet FIA Grade 2 safety standards. While it is not FIA Grade 1 like the Buddh International Circuit in Noida that can host Formula One races, it can still host a variety of motorsport disciplines, including F2.
Coming back to the circuit layout, it’ll comprise 14 turns, with the final corner having a banked section that’ll rocket the cars down the start/finish straight. It is estimated that an F2 car will be able to lap this racetrack in 1:28 seconds with average speeds of up to 177kmph. What’s more, there will also be a 1.016km CIK Grade1 karting track within the infield of the main racetrack.
Currently work on the circuit is still underway but it is expected to be ready within the next 3-4 months. So it shouldn’t be a long wait before racing cars burn rubber on the asphalt of the new CoASTT racetrack.
