Regaining its number two position in the two-wheeler segment, Bajaj Auto will now bank on newer variants of Discovers and Pulsars to keep up the pace. On Monday, Bajaj Auto launched the new Discover 125 Sports Tourer to build on its executive segment market share. The much-awaited, next generation Pulsar 200 NS should hit the Indian roads in the next few days beginning with Maharashtra, and followed by other states in July this year. Rajiv Bajaj, Bajaj Group MD, speaks about the company's most successful brand - Pulsar

Q: Can you give us the review of Discover’s performance so far and what are your expectations for the new range of Discovers?
RB: I would say it has consistently delivered a volume of about 100,000 motorcycles per month and has secured a leadership position in the 125cc+ commuter segment with approximately 40% market share. I expect the new Discover 125 ST, with our all new DTSI-i twin spark technology, to help Bajaj maintain its leadership in the 125cc+ commuter segment, while expanding the size of this segment by motivating more 100cc commuter intenders to graduate to the 125cc+ space.

Q: The next big launch is the much awaited Pulsar 200 NS. You have been working very closely with KTM. What is the contribution KTM engineers offered to develop the next generation Pulsar?

RB: None directly. Pulsar is a true Bajaj R&D product. It is powered by a completely new engine with entirely new technology. It is a Bajaj brand that is powered by Bajaj technology.

Q: Does the development of the next generation Pulsar offer Bajaj a leap over the Japanese bike makers and gives it an edge?
RB:
We believe so. Primarily, on account of our new DTSI-i triple spark technology. It offers the best combination of power & mileage than any motorcycle anywhere in the world.

Q: Is this the beginning of many products that Bajaj intends to launch with KTM in the near future?
RB:
Some Bajaj & KTM products share a few components. Otherwise they are largely distinct brands, distinct technologies and distinct products. They have to be. KTM bikes are built to race & their premium pricing reflects their race-bred content. Bajaj motorcycles, on the other hand, are hi-tech, sporty and value-for-money machines that are built for everyday riding

Q: Currently the Pulsar family has the 135cc, 150cc, 180ccm, 200cc and the 220 cc. Will any of these be discontinued with the launch of the new Pulsar?
RB:
There are no plans to discontinue any models. The new range of Pulsars will co-exist with the current range.

Q: What is the export potential for the new Pulsar?
RB:
Very promising we believe, but again only time will tell.

Q: When will it be launched in Europe?
RB:
