One of a very few examples of the Typ 220 known to be in existence the world over, its owner Harshvardhan is now trying to figure out whether to keep it as it is or to get it restored

Probably the one car which I would have awarded the top honours in the newly incepted Preservation Class but then this unique Austrian machine yet motoring away smoothly does say much about its maker and also its caretaker! First it must be mentioned that this car was designed by none other than Dr Ferdinand Porsche for Steyr and this example is in perfect running order to this day, looked after by its caring owner, Harshvardhan Singh, the present Yuvraj of Dungarpur.

It was acquired in 1937 from a German engineer working in what was then known as Bombay by the late Maharaja of Dungarpur and used as his staff car. One of a very few examples of the Typ 220 known to be in existence the world over, its owner Harshvardhan is now trying to figure out whether to keep it as it is or to get it restored. Tough call this, we say!
