Scindia School Gwalior, one of the country's premier boarding schools, had the sixth edition of its car rally flagged off from Delhi on May 3, 2013. The rally was organised by Scindia Old Boys Association (SOBA) along with JK Tyre and is routed on a 370km course to Ranthambore via Alwar.
Present at the flag off from the NSCI Club in Delhi were Arun Chaudhary, Director General Sashastra Seema Bal, Air Vice-Marshal Shouvik Roy, former Indian cricketer Nikhil Chopra and multiple rally champion Hari Singh.
The famed rally has 30 cars and 90 participants this year, all Scindia School alumni. It will conclude on May 4, 2013, at the Ranthambore National Game Park followed by Prize Giving ceremony presided over by P.K. Sahu, Chief Field Officer of the Ranthambore National Park.
Previously the rally has traversed through Corbett National Park, Rishikesh, Jaipur, Agra, Chandigarh, Shilonbagh, and Bharatpur. A fun ride on tarmac aside, the rally also includes off-roading sections through the arid terrain.
Boarding schools like Scindia, Mayo, Lawrence or Doon School have had a rich sporting heritage and a strong alumnus worldwide, therefore, making it interesting to see Scindia School connect with the world of motorsport.
A stalwart of Indian motorsport and multiple National Rally champion Hari Singh, who is an alumni of Lawrence School Sanawar is overseeing this event. He considers the rally to be not just a social event but an iconic initiative to connect the world of motoring to prestigious institutes of this country. Hopefully, the future will see other public schools follow this example and be a part of the Indian Motorsports scenario.
