It’s a very important day for Toyota Kirloskar Motor. The car manufacturer braces itself as it launches the new 2014 Toyota Corolla Altis today, which probably is strategically the most vital new model for the company currently. In the recent past, most of the newer car models introduced by Toyota in India have received lukewarm response, and the company has become dependent on its stalwarts like the Toyoata Innova and Toyota Fortuner.
The Toyota Corolla Altis has been a popular model in India, and the new car needs to be an even bigger hit to keep the company’s cash register ringing. As we had reported earlier, the Toyota Corolla Altis 2014 has been officially launched today, as per the schedule. In fact Toyota dealerships across India have been accepting booking for the new sedan for an amount of Rs 50,000 per unit.
The new Toyota Corolla Altis was unveiled for the first time in India at the 2014 Auto Expo held at Noida earlier this year, where the entry-level premium sedan received fairly positive feedback for its more appealing design, compared to the outgoing model. The 2014 Toyota Corolla Altis, in its 11th generation, follows the company’s new design language, and sheds the understated styling of previous generation and is a lot more appealing than before. The new Altis now gets a more attractive design, and uses good helping of chrome and LEDs. This new car features large, swept back dual-barrel headlamps with LEDs on higher specs, a chunky chrome front grille and a well contoured rear design. The long and wide bonnet, the acute angle of the windscreen and lower roofline gives the 2014 Toyota Corolla a low, sports-car-like look.
Like the previous generation model, the 2014 Toyota Corolla Altis will be offered in both petrol and diesel engines options. It will be carrying forward the same 1.8-litre VVTi petrol engine and the 1.4-litre D4-D diesel engine producing the same 140PS and 90PS of power respectively. Both the motors would get six-speed manual gearboxes as standard, while the petrol model will also be offered with a 7-speed CVT gearbox. (Also read: 2014 Toyota Corolla Altis review)
Even the interior of the Altis gets a thorough upgrade, and now features touch-screen infotainment system and satellite navigation among others. Since the 2014 Toyota Corolla is 100mm longer than the older model, it also offers better rear legroom. To enhance rear seat comfort, Toyota has introduced reclining rear-seats.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor has priced the new 2014 Toyota Corolla Altis petrol variant starting from Rs 11.99 lakh and diesel variant from Rs 13.07 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Speaking about the launch, Naomi Ishii, Managing Director said, “Corolla is the world’s most favorite car. It is the world’s No 1 car with more than 40 million cars sold across the globe. The Corolla accounts for one in every five vehicle sold by Toyota in the 76 - year history. 1969 was the start of its 33 year run as best - selling car in Japan. With global cumulative sales exceeding 22.65 million units, in 1997 the Corolla became the world’s best – selling nameplate. More than a million units have been sold each year since 2002. We are glad to launch the 11th generation of this global car in India.”
