Harley Davidson introduces its most affordable motorcycle, the Street 500, in the US market
Harley Davidson Street 500

After launching the Street 750 in the Indian market at the 2014 Auto Expo in February, Harley Davidson has now brought in its most affordable motorcycle in the US market. The Harley Davidson Street 500 was launched at $6,799 (Rs 4.10 lakh) in the United States.

The smallest displacement motorcycle to come off the HD production lines, the Street 500 is powered by the new Revolution X 494cc liquid cooled V-twin engine. This is the same engine that works on its elder sibling, but has been detuned to produce 40Nm of torque instead of 60Nm. The Street 500 too is mated to a 6-speed gearbox. The American motorcycle manufacturer claims that the Street 500 will return an efficiency of 17.4kmpl under mixed conditions in the US.

In the looks department the 2015 Street 500 is identical to the Street 750 and follows the Dark Custom styling. The Street 500 too sports the Night Rod inspired headlights with a cafe style speed screen, a short mud guard, teardrop shaped tank and LED tail light at the back. The Street 500 also has the two-in-one exhausts and pull-back handle bars.

With the Street 750, Harley Davidson has already made its entry into the affordable performance bike segment and with the launch of the smaller Street 500 it only wants to further the cause. In fact both these bikes cater to a whole new audience as opposed to the other models in the Harley Davidson stable. The Harley Davidson Street 500 is likely to go on sale in India early next year. While it will surely be priced lower than the 750, we expect it to be around Rs 3.6 lakh.
