With Mahindra introducing the new Scorpio last year and more recently the New Age XUV 500, it was only a matter of time before Tata brought in the 2015 Safari Storme. Launched at a starting price of Rs 9.99 lakh for the base LX variant, with the updated Safari Storme, Tata is hoping to get a larger share in the extremely competitive SUV market.
With regards to looks, the 2015 Tata Safari Storme isn’t exceedingly different from the outgoing model. In fact, the only noticeable change is the Land Rover inspired front grille. But the story is a lot different on the inside. Tata has evidently worked a lot harder as far as the interiors are concerned and it shows. The new Safari Storme gets a black-silver dashboard and new fabric for the seats. The controls for the music too have been changed from the stalks to the steering wheel. Talking about the steering wheel, it is a new one similar to what we have seen on the Bolt and the Zest.
Speaking on the occasion, Girish Wagh, Senior Vice President, PPPM (Program, Planning and Project Management), Passenger Vehicles Business Unit, Tata Motors, said, “The new Safari Storme launched today is based on Tata Motors HORIZONEXT, having evolved for a more engaging and connected drive, boasting added masculinity, with increased power. The new Safari Storme has a host of integrated connectivity features for a more complete vehicle experience, new design elements to the exteriors and the interiors, for added dynamism, boldness and aggression, along with a superior road presence.”
There is a minor change at the heart of things as well. Although the displacement continues to be the same 2,179cc diesel unit but it now makes 150PS instead of the earlier 140PS. The torque rating though continues to be the same at 320Nm. The engine comes mated to a 5-speed gearbox.
The 2015 Safari Storme has been launched in four variants – the LX (4x2) at Rs 9.99 lakh, EX (4x2) at Rs 11.60 lakh, VX (4x2) at Rs 13.02 lakh and the top-end VX (4x4)14.34 lakh. All prices ex-showroom Delhi.
