Having showcased its products at the 2014 Auto Expo, UM Motorcycles today launched its Renegade Commando, Renegade Classic, and Renegade Sport S in India at the 2016 Auto Expo today. While the Renegade Commando is priced at Rs 1.59 lakhs, the Sport S will cost Rs 1.49 lakhs and the Renegade Classic will be the most expensive of the lot at Rs 1.69 lakh (all ex-showroom, New Delhi). All three bikes are powered by the same 278cc, air-cooled single cylinder engine producing 25PS of power and 22Nm of torque. UM Motorcycles is the Indian arm of American manufacturer UM International LLC, and has a 50:50 partnership with Lohia Auto, who is manufacturing the bikes at its Uttarakhand plant. UM is hoping to carve a new niche in the entry-level performance segment with the two bikes, both styled as cruisers.

The manufacturer is targeting buyers wanting a 250-300cc motorcycles that are styled to look like a cruiser and are comfortable for long rides and is offering the bike with a six speed transmission, wide, cruiser-like handlebars and footboards instead of footpegs. The manufacturer is thus hoping to eat into Royal Enfield's sales with the Commando and Sport S apart from competing with bikes like the KTM 200/390 Duke, Benelli TNT 25 and Mahindra Mojo. With a kerb weight of 172kg the bikes are heavier than the aforementioned naked bikes but are significantly lighter than the Royal Enfields. While acceleration figures have not been revealed, UM is claiming a top speed of 125kmph for the two bikes.

All three bikes are identical under the skin though the Classic is styled and is being promoted as the most premium product. The Sport S also gets a single seat as compared to the Commando's conventional seat for rider and pillion for a more stylish appearance, though a pillion seat will be offered as an accessory. UM Motorcycles also launched its range of riding apparel and accessories alongside the two motorcycles, including helmets, protective jackets and gloves. The manufacturer is hoping to ramp up its dealer network this year with dealerships planned in major cities across the country.
