Kawasaki had revealed the Z900 at the INTERMOT last month, and now, the Japenese bikemaker has officially unveiled the Z900 streetfighter at the ongoing EICMA in Milan, Italy. The bike will replace the current Z800 and will be getting updated with more power, improved styling, and renewed underpinnings. Surprisingly, now, the Z900 will weigh around 20 kgs lighter than its predecessor, the Z800.
The new street-fighter emerges from the Z800, and will now feature sharper lines on the naked body and will also get an all-new Trellis frame. Mechanically, the engine has been borrowed from the Z1000. The new 948cc, in-line four-cylinder motor on the bike will churn out 125 PS of power and around 98.9 Nm of peak torque. The engine is coupled to a six-speed gearbox, where, gears one to five are close and short with the sixth being an overdrive (something that was missing in the Z800). Kawasaki has also used a 525 chain set to reduce drive losses.
The 2017 Kawasaki Z900 will also be featuring slipper clutch, 41mm inverted front forks, horizontally-mounted mono-shock at the rear with preload and rebound adjustment, dual 300 mm disc brakes up front with a four-piston caliper on each, 250 mm rear disc with a single-piston caliper, and a 17-litre fuel tank. Additionally, Nissin ABS will come as standard on the model.
The Kawasaki Z900 will carry a premium price tag; more than that of the Z800 (around Rs 50,000 to 1 lakh more). The bike is likely to make its way to the Indian shores by next year and will be imported as a CBU to the country.
